NAMA Marks One Year of Transformative Leadership Under Engr. Farouk with Staff Recognition Night
The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) celebrated a year of dynamic and impactful leadership under its Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, with a “Staff Recognition Dinner for Impactful Leadership and Team Excellence” held at the picturesque Obudu Gardens of the Abuja Continental Hotel.
The event, tagged the “Hardworking Staff Recognition Award Night,” served as a platform to honour the dedication and diligence of exceptional staff members while reflecting on the agency’s remarkable milestones achieved under Engr. Farouk’s stewardship.
Engr. Farouk, in his address, underscored the importance of acknowledging the efforts of the workforce.
“The awards being presented tonight are not just plaques or certificates; they represent our appreciation for hard work, commitment, and the kind of excellence that drives NAMA forward. To the recipients, I say congratulations!
“This recognition is not just a reward but a reminder that your efforts do not go unnoticed. Let this achievement inspire you to even greater contributions. And to every other staff member, let these awards serve as a challenge — because next year, it could be any of you here,” he remarked.
The Managing Director further outlined the agency’s achievements over the past year, attributing its success to the collective effort of the management team and staff.
Highlighting the Agency’s achievements under Engr. Farouk’s leadership, Abdullahi Musa, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, disclosed that NAMA has recorded significant strides, including:
Improved Safety: A notable reduction in Air Safety Reports through adherence to ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices.
Infrastructure Development: Refurbishment of control towers at seven major airports, including Owerri, Sokoto, and Ibadan, with plans to extend the initiative to six additional airports.
Capacity Building: Investment in both local and international training programmes for air traffic controllers and engineers, aligning staff capacity with global best practices.
Energy Efficiency: Introduction of solar-powered systems, reducing operational costs and ensuring uninterrupted power supply to critical facilities.
ISO 9001 Certification: Attained in December 2024, reinforcing NAMA’s commitment to quality management and continuous improvement.
Enhanced Staff Welfare: Clearance of outstanding allowances and implementation of measures for timely payment of entitlements.
“Milestones like these don’t happen in isolation,” Engr. Farouk stated, lauding the collaborative spirit of his team.
Directors at NAMA, including ABBA Ahmad, mni, Director of Special Duty, and Dr. Abdullahi Musa, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, praised Engr. Farouk’s visionary leadership.
They commended his tenure for fostering growth and innovation, passing a unanimous vote of confidence in his administration.
The evening was filled with vibrant activities, including games, karaoke performances, and dancing, creating a celebratory atmosphere.

Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on December 13, 2023, has set a clear vision for operational excellence at NAMA.
