NSIB, Oyo State Government Forge Partnership to Boost Transport Safety

The Director-General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Captain Alex Badeh Jr., in a significant step towards enhancing transport safety, led a delegation to pay a courtesy visit to the Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

The visit, which took place in Ibadan, was aimed at fostering collaboration between the NSIB and the Oyo State Government to advance safety measures and accident prevention strategies within the state.

Captain Badeh Jr. lauded Governor Makinde’s visionary leadership and infrastructural strides, highlighting the necessity of integrating rigorous safety protocols across all sectors, particularly transportation.

He provided an overview of the bureau’s mission and achievements, underscoring its commitment to improving safety through thorough investigation of accidents, issuance of safety recommendations, and active stakeholder engagement.

“We are here today to express our admiration for your visionary leadership and to explore how we can work together to promote a culture of transport safety in Oyo State.

“NSIB is committed to ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of every development initiative, and we believe that by working with state governments, we can create safer environments across Nigeria,” Captain Badeh remarked.

In his response, Governor Makinde welcomed the NSIB delegation, commending their efforts in enhancing transport safety nationwide.

He expressed his readiness to collaborate with the bureau, particularly in strengthening safety measures across critical sectors in Oyo State.

“Your work is critical in ensuring that we learn from past accidents and prevent future occurrences, and I am pleased to see your proactive approach in reaching out to stakeholders at all levels,” Governor Makinde stated.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to infrastructural development and improved safety standards, emphasising the importance of partnership between federal agencies and state governments to achieve sustainable progress.

Discussions during the meeting explored mutual areas of interest, including continuous education and training on safety protocols and the promotion of public awareness campaigns to instil a safety-first culture among residents.

The visit concluded with a commitment from both parties to strengthen collaboration and implement initiatives aimed at improving transport safety in Oyo State and beyond.

The NSIB said it remains steadfast in its mission to promote transport safety through objective and comprehensive investigations into accidents and incidents, advocating for safety improvements across all modes of transportation.
