Kebbi Command Marks Int’l Customs Day with Retired Officers, Highlights Commitment to Efficiency, Collaboration

The Kebbi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) joined customs communities worldwide to celebrate International Customs Day (ICD) 2025 in a grand event held at the Command premises in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, 27 January 2025.

According to a statement signed by Salisu Mohammed Tajjuddeen, Public Relations Officer, Kebbi Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service, the ceremony brought together distinguished guests, including the Emir of Gwandu, retired customs officers, stakeholders, sister agencies, and other dignitaries.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Iheanacho Ernest Ojike, set the tone of the event with a lecture on the theme of ICD 2025, “Customs Delivering on Its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity.”

He emphasised the pillars underpinning the Command’s achievements, which align with the Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR’s vision of Consolidation, Innovation, and Collaboration.

Ojike highlighted the adoption of global best practices such as advanced ruling systems, data analytics, and the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator programme as transformative steps driving the Service’s success.

The event’s keynote address was delivered by the Special Guest of Honour, Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) Aminu Abubakar Dangaladima (Rtd), who commended the dedication of customs officers and men in ensuring the smooth operation of international trade.

He further acknowledged the invaluable contributions of stakeholders, sister agencies, trading communities, transporters, and other government bodies.

In his remarks, Comptroller Hussaini Suleiman Kangiwa (Rtd), PhD, underscored the critical role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in modern customs operations.

He advocated for enhanced collaboration among sister agencies, robust enforcement of government fiscal policies, and meaningful research to strengthen the Service’s efficiency and impact.

As a gesture of appreciation, souvenirs were distributed to guests in recognition of their support and participation.

This symbolic act highlighted the Command’s commitment to fostering stronger interagency relationships and collaboration.

The event, which commemorated the contributions of customs officers to national development, showcased the Command’s determination to meet its objectives of ensuring efficiency, security, and prosperity in its operations.
