The organisers of the prestigious Accra Weizo West African Travel Expo have announced that the 8th edition of the event will take place on Friday, 27th June 2025 in Accra, Ghana.

The highly anticipated travel fair will kick off with a Road Trip Adventure spanning Nigeria, Benin, Togo, and Ghana from 21st to 26th June 2025, leading up to the main event.

A key highlight of this year’s expo is the Tour Operators Summit, scheduled for 27th June, with the theme: “Re-Imagining the ECOWAS Free Movement Protocol.”

The summit will provide a platform for tour operators from across West Africa to engage with prominent figures in the travel, aviation, hospitality, and tourism industries, fostering new partnerships and collaborative opportunities.

Accra Weizo, a premier West African travel event, is organised by Akwaaba African Travel Market in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority.

The initiative aims to enhance seamless travel within West Africa by simplifying border and airport processes, improving access to cities, standardising hotel services, and showcasing professional tourism service providers to the world.

Despite boasting over 400 million people and a wealth of cultural and natural attractions, West Africa remains one of the least visited regions on the continent.

However, the region generates Africa’s highest number of outbound travellers, highlighting a significant gap in intra-regional tourism.

Accra Weizo seeks to bridge this gap by encouraging West Africans to explore their own region, positioning West Africa as an open domestic travel market with vast opportunities for tourism and economic growth.

As part of its annual tradition, Accra Weizo, in collaboration with ATQnews.com, will honour the Top 100 Travel Companies that have significantly contributed to the promotion of tourism within the region.

Delegates from tourism boards, airlines, and hospitality sectors are expected to participate in this prestigious event.

The 8th edition of Accra Weizo will feature: Conference Sessions, Business-to-Business (B2B) Networking, Familiarisation (Fam) Trips, Exhibitions, Balafon Awards of Excellence, and more.

The Balafon Awards of Excellence will celebrate pioneers and top players in the West African tourism industry, recognising their contributions towards strengthening the regional travel market.

This year’s Accra Weizo promises an unforgettable experience, as delegates will not only engage in high-level industry discussions but also explore iconic tourist attractions and experience the vibrant nightlife of Benin, Togo, and Ghana.

The event is open to all African tour operators, offering them a valuable opportunity to connect with the leading tourism personalities in West Africa.

Over the years, Accra Weizo has attracted a distinguished array of attendees, including His Royal Highness, Nene Nagai Kassa VIII, and Honourable Mike A. Gizo, Chief of Agomeda and President of Shai Traditional Council.

The event has also welcomed members of the diplomatic community in Ghana, including High Commissioners and Ambassadors from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.

As the countdown to Accra Weizo 2025 begins, stakeholders in the West African travel and tourism industry are set to gather once again to discuss strategies for unlocking the full potential of regional tourism while fostering stronger cross-border collaboration.
