The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Professor Jubril Muhammad Aminu, describing the late elder statesman as an “epitome of knowledge” whose intellectual and professional legacy spanned medicine, education, foreign policy, politics, and the oil industry.

In a statement issued on Friday, 6th June, Marwa paid glowing tribute to the former Minister of Education, who passed away on Thursday, 5th June at the age of 85, noting that his death constitutes a monumental loss not only to Nigeria but also to the international community.

“Even at 85, we would have loved to see him live much longer, for many more years, so that Nigeria can continue to benefit from his depth of knowledge and wealth of experience that cuts across critical sectors of human development,” Marwa said.

He noted that the outpouring of tributes from all quarters in the 24 hours following Prof. Aminu’s death was a clear testament to the profound impact he made throughout his distinguished career.

According to the NDLEA boss, the sense of loss being felt nationwide reflects the calibre of the man whose life of service left an indelible mark on the nation’s development.

“Yet, in our state of bereavement, we cannot but celebrate the life and times of an extraordinary man, an epitome of knowledge who, until he passed on, was and is still one of Nigeria’s finest examples in medicine and academics, where he made lasting impacts,” Marwa stated.

Reflecting on their personal and professional relationship, Marwa recalled fond memories of his interactions with the late Professor Aminu, both as a fellow son of Adamawa State and during various engagements in national service.

He praised the late academic and politician for his integrity, brilliance, and patriotic devotion to Nigeria’s progress.

Prof. Jubril Aminu was a respected figure who held several high-profile positions, including Federal Minister of Education, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Nigerian Ambassador to the United States, and Senator representing Adamawa Central in the National Assembly.

He was also renowned for his pioneering contributions to medical education and public policy.

As the nation mourns his passing, Marwa joined millions of Nigerians in offering heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and associates of the late professor, while calling on the younger generation to draw inspiration from his exemplary life.
