The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in a decisive move to bolster capacity building and align Nigeria’s aviation standards with global best practices, has entered into a strategic partnership with ATOM Training Services, a premier aviation training institute based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 22 July 2025 in Dubai.

This development marks a major leap in FAAN’s ongoing efforts to deliver on the six-point agenda of its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs Olubunmi Oluwaseun Kuku, with a particular focus on human capital development and operational excellence.

Leading FAAN’s delegation to Dubai was the Director of Human Resources and Administration, Dr Luqman Emiola Olatunbosun, while ATOM Training Services was represented by its General and Accountable Manager, Mr Abdulla Almemari.

The ceremony also included a comprehensive tour of the ATOM training facility and high-level discussions between both organisations to finalise the terms of the agreement.

The collaboration is poised to significantly enhance the competence and efficiency of FAAN personnel, especially those involved in safety-critical operations.

ATOM Training Services brings to the table its reputation for delivering International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)-compliant and industry-specific programmes, ranging from air traffic management and emergency response to safety oversight and regulatory compliance.

According to FAAN, the training will be tailored to meet specific operational needs and will contribute meaningfully to improving staff skills, compliance with international standards, and overall airport service delivery.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to position FAAN as a proactive and forward-looking aviation agency on the global stage.

This partnership also echoes the commitment Mrs Kuku made during her inaugural address, where she emphasised: “Every institution is only as powerful as the human resources managing it. Therefore, we will prioritise the enhancement of institutional and human capacity. Working with national and international bodies, we will promote Nigeria’s image and strengthen the network of FAAN.”

Since taking office on 18 December 2023, Mrs Kuku has championed staff development as a cornerstone of her administration.

To date, over 3,000 FAAN staff have undergone various forms of training and certification, underscoring her resolve to strengthen institutional performance and ensure safe, secure, and efficient airport operations across the country.

The MoU with ATOM Training Services is a core component of the Training Department’s strategic blueprint and is expected to open new frontiers for knowledge exchange, innovation, and professionalism.

It represents a firm step by FAAN towards building a future-ready workforce capable of driving the Authority’s growth and enhancing its global competitiveness.

The announcement was made public in a press statement signed by Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN.
