FAAN Boss Olubunmi Kuku Ascends to Global Aviation Leadership as ACI Africa Vice President

Nigeria has secured a prominent seat on the global aviation stage following the election of Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), as Vice President of Airports Council International (ACI) Africa.
Her elevation also confers on her the status of permanent member of the ACI World Governing Board, one of the most influential decision-making bodies in the aviation industry.
The landmark announcement was made during the 34th ACI Africa General Assembly held in Lusaka, Zambia. It represents not only a personal triumph for Mrs Kuku but also a boost for Nigeria’s growing influence in the international aviation sector.
ACI Africa, with 56 member states, serves as the principal voice of airports across the continent, promoting collaboration, policy advancement, and sustainable growth. Globally, the ACI World Governing Board – comprising 814 members across 169 countries – oversees approximately 2,100 airports, making it a critical forum for shaping the future of global aviation.
Speaking after her election, Mrs Kuku expressed gratitude and a renewed sense of responsibility:
“Being elected as Vice President of ACI Africa is an incredible honour, one that I do not take lightly. I am committed to working closely with my colleagues to ensure our airports are not only safe and efficient but also drivers of prosperity, connectivity, and innovation for Africa and the world.”
Her appointment comes at a time when Nigerian airports are undergoing significant transformation under her stewardship.
Since taking office, she has championed infrastructure modernisation, passenger-centric service delivery, and adherence to international safety and regulatory standards.
Her background in both aviation and finance uniquely equips her to navigate pressing issues such as infrastructure deficits, sustainable practices, and the drive towards operational excellence.
Industry observers note that her leadership has already attracted multiple awards, underscoring her determination to reposition Nigeria as a benchmark for aviation excellence on the continent.
By assuming this continental and global role, Mrs Kuku is poised to give a stronger voice to African airports on issues such as safety, connectivity, and innovation, while ensuring that Africa’s peculiar challenges are addressed in global aviation policies.
Her elevation is widely regarded as a watershed moment for Nigerian aviation, cementing the country’s place within the highest ranks of international aviation governance and offering renewed hope for a brighter, more connected future for Africa’s aviation landscape.
