FAAN Rolls Out Cashless Payment System at Lagos, Abuja Airports

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled a major shift in the way airport transactions are conducted, with the launch of Operation Go Cashless.

The scheme, developed in partnership with Paystack, will replace cash payments with a seamless, contactless payment system beginning at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

Effective from 29 September 2025, all payments at FAAN’s designated revenue points — including access gates, car parks, VIP and protocol lounges – will be strictly cashless. This means cash collections will be phased out at these locations, with travellers and other airport users required to make payments through secure digital options.

In its announcement, FAAN explained that the initiative is a response to the growing demand for modern, transparent, and reliable payment systems.

By reducing dependence on cash, the agency said it aims to increase operational efficiency, strengthen revenue assurance, and enhance the overall customer experience at Nigerian airports.

To facilitate the transition, FAAN has deployed trained brand ambassadors at entry gates and payment terminals in both Lagos and Abuja airports. These ambassadors will provide guidance to users, help with onboarding, demonstrate the new system, and address any concerns.

Passengers can also access the new service through a dedicated FAAN Go Cashless Card, available at airport access gates in Lagos and Abuja. Once obtained, users are encouraged to activate and fund their cards immediately by visiting www.gocashless.faan.gov.ng.

FAAN assured that this is the first phase of a broader national roll-out. Over time, the cashless system will be extended to airports across the country, in line with the authority’s goal of aligning Nigerian airports with global digital payment trends.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to continuous improvement and urged passengers to take advantage of the support services provided. Enquiries can be directed to the support line at 0700-CBS-FAAN (0700-227-3226) or by email at [email protected].

With Operation Go Cashless, FAAN is set to transform the payment landscape at Nigeria’s airports, offering travellers faster, safer, and more convenient services.
