Ethiopian Airlines Places Firm Order for Six Additional Airbus A350-900s

Ethiopian Airlines has reinforced its fleet expansion strategy with a firm order for six additional Airbus A350-900 aircraft, further consolidating its position as the largest A350 operator in Africa.
The agreement was formally signed at the Dubai Airshow by the Group Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines, Mr Mesfin Tasew, and Airbus Executive Vice President of Sales for Commercial Aircraft, Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.
With this latest acquisition, the airline strengthens not only its Airbus fleet but also its long-standing partnership with the European aircraft manufacturer.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Tasew described the order as a strategic investment aligned with the airline’s long-term growth ambitions.
“We are delighted to expand our Airbus fleet size with this order and strengthen our partnership with the Airbus company. As the continent’s leading airline and the largest operator of the A350, this milestone order further supports our vision to grow sustainably while providing a world-class travel experience and strengthening our position as the aviation leader in Africa,” he stated.
Echoing this sentiment, Mr de Saint-Exupéry praised Ethiopian Airlines for its continued commitment to innovation and operational excellence.
“We are proud to further deepen our partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, a long-standing Airbus customer and a benchmark for aviation excellence in Africa. The A350’s state-of-the-art technology, efficiency and versatility will bring even greater value to Ethiopian’s operations,” he said.
The Airbus A350-900 is renowned for its advanced aerodynamic design, quiet cabin, and sophisticated passenger comfort features. It delivers 25 per cent lower fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft, making it a key element in global efforts to promote greener aviation.
Ethiopian Airlines’ latest order underscores its sustained commitment to modernising and expanding its fleet with environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient, and technologically advanced aircraft.
The new additions will support the airline’s growing route network and enhance its capacity to deliver superior passenger experiences across its global operations.
