Nigeria Customs Extends Deadline for Migration to AEO Programme as Stakeholders Get Fresh Window for Compliance

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a one-month extension for companies migrating from the Fast Track Scheme to the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, shifting the previous deadline of 31 December 2025 to 31 January 2026.

The move underscores the Service’s commitment to deepening trade facilitation, enhancing supply chain security, and promoting globally accepted compliance standards.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 11 December 2025, the National Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, PhD, said the extension is intended to give all Fast Track beneficiaries additional time to complete their AEO applications through the official portal: aeo.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng.

According to the NCS, existing beneficiaries who fail to migrate before the new deadline will lose the facilitation privileges previously available under the Fast Track Scheme.

Only companies duly certified under the AEO Programme will enjoy benefits such as expedited cargo release, reduced documentation, lower inspection levels, and pre-arrival processing.

Maiwada noted that the AEO Programme is a “globally recognised, compliance-based initiative” aligned with the World Customs Organisation (WCO) SAFE Framework of Standards and backed by Sections 108 to 111 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

He added that the transition will enhance predictability in cross-border trade and reinforce Nigeria’s standing in international commerce.

To further support operators, the Service will hold another comprehensive Stakeholders Engagement Forum on Thursday, 18 December 2025, at the Lagos Continental Hotel from 0900hrs to 1600hrs.

The forum will provide hands-on guidance on the AEO application process, address compliance concerns, and allow participants to interact with the AEO implementation teams.

The NCS urged all Fast Track beneficiaries to take full advantage of the extension, attend the engagement forum, and complete their migration to the AEO platform.

Doing so, the Service emphasised, will strengthen supply chain efficiency, ensure regulatory compliance, and promote a transparent and secure cargo clearance environment that supports legitimate trade.

The statement reaffirmed the NCS’s dedication to improving trade efficiency, protecting national revenue, and boosting Nigeria’s global competitiveness through a predictable and technology-driven customs ecosystem.
