NAHCO Deepens Community Impact, Sponsors Primary Schools Debate in Lagos
The Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (nahco aviance) has sustained its drive for impactful Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by sponsoring a primary schools debate competition in Oshodi–Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, reinforcing its commitment to education and community development within its host communities.
The initiative, which brought together pupils from several public primary schools across the local government area, formed part of NAHCO’s broader CSR strategy aimed at implementing meaningful and sustainable projects in communities where the company operates.
The aviation handling firm reaffirmed that it remains determined to exceed expectations in the delivery of socially responsible interventions.
Speaking at the prize presentation ceremony, the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCO, Mr Olumuyiwa Olumekun, represented by the Assistant General Manager, Corporate Communications, Mr Tayo Ajakaye, noted that the company has, over the years, made timely interventions in its host communities.
He highlighted key areas of support, including the provision of borehole water, donation of relief materials to internally displaced persons, and sponsorship of educational infrastructure and programmes.
Olumekun congratulated the overall winner of the competition, Mafoluku Primary School, describing the performances of the three finalists as outstanding.
He also commended State Primary School, Oshodi, which emerged as the first runner-up, Oshodi Model Primary School, which placed third, and Larinde Primary School, which finished fourth, applauding the pupils for their confidence, eloquence and intellectual depth.
The Executive Chairman of Oshodi–Isolo Local Government, Otunba Kehinde Oloyede Almaroof, who was present at the grand finale, praised NAHCO for sponsoring the competition, describing the initiative as highly commendable. “This is really very impressive, and we must thank NAHCO for this initiative,” he said.
Otunba Almaroof urged the company to sustain its support for the debate championship, while also calling on the Local Government Education Authority to organise such competitions more frequently to further enhance learning and healthy competition among schools in the area.
The championship, themed “Inspiring Young Voices, Building Tomorrow,” provided a platform for primary school pupils in Oshodi–Isolo to develop their oratory and critical thinking skills.
It also fostered healthy rivalry, boosted public speaking confidence and offered enriching learning experiences beyond the traditional classroom environment.
At the end of the contest, the winning school received a cash prize of N500,000, while the second and third place winners went home with N300,000 and N200,000 respectively.
NAHCO has continued to support its host communities through a wide range of strategic CSR initiatives, demonstrating that its leadership extends beyond aviation ground handling operations.
For the company, community development is not merely an obligation but an integral part of its commitment to promoting sustainable growth and empowering people within the environments in which it operates.
