Nigeria’s largest airline by fleet size, Air Peace Limited, has expanded its premium service portfolio with the inauguration of a newly built Executive Lounge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2, a move widely seen as part of its long-term strategy to enhance customer experience and consolidate its leadership in West and Central African aviation.

The lounge was officially unveiled on 14 February 2026 during a ceremony attended by airline executives, staff, aviation stakeholders, journalists, and select First and Business Class passengers. Among the prominent guests was former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, whose presence highlighted the significance of the occasion within Nigeria’s aviation and business circles.

Choosing Valentine’s Day for the opening was a deliberate gesture, according to airline officials, symbolising appreciation for customers whose loyalty has sustained the carrier’s rapid expansion over the past decade. The airline described the facility as a testament to its commitment to comfort, innovation, and service excellence.

Aviation analysts note that premium lounges are increasingly regarded as essential infrastructure for airlines seeking to compete internationally. Beyond providing convenience, such facilities strengthen brand identity, improve passenger satisfaction, and position airlines to attract corporate travellers, diplomats, and high-net-worth clients who prioritise comfort and efficiency.

The Executive Lounge has been carefully designed to balance sophistication with practicality. Decorated in soft cream hues with contemporary finishes, the space accommodates more than 39 guests and features six ergonomically crafted recliner chairs intended to offer optimal relaxation before departure.

The facility includes a dedicated business workspace fitted with computer monitors and printing equipment, allowing travellers to complete professional tasks while awaiting boarding.

Two private sections equipped with tablets and headphones provide a quiet, distraction-free setting for virtual meetings, confidential calls, or personal entertainment.

Passengers can also enjoy an expansive entertainment zone with a large television screen, while a refreshment station serves pastries, soft drinks, and a selection of beverages.

A digital display monitor provides real-time flight updates alongside information about the airline’s products and services, ensuring passengers remain informed at all times. Security is reinforced through a round-the-clock 360-degree surveillance system installed throughout the facility.

Speaking after the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Chief Commercial Officer Nowel Ngala described the lounge as a strategic investment aimed at strengthening the airline’s competitive edge.

He explained that the initiative reflects the company’s determination to deliver world-class service comparable with leading global carriers, particularly as it expands its route network across Africa and beyond.

Ngala stressed that modern travellers increasingly judge airlines not only by flight punctuality and onboard comfort but also by the quality of pre-flight services. He added that the lounge represents a tangible expression of gratitude to premium passengers who continue to entrust the airline with their domestic, regional, and long-haul journeys.

In his remarks, Obi commended the airline for its consistency in innovation and infrastructure development, observing that indigenous carriers that invest boldly in passenger experience play a crucial role in elevating Nigeria’s reputation within the global aviation industry.

He emphasised that such initiatives demonstrate the capacity of local enterprises to meet international standards and compete effectively on the world stage.

Industry observers say investments of this nature contribute to the broader development of Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem, encouraging healthy competition among airlines while supporting the country’s ambition to serve as a regional air transport hub.

Since commencing operations in 2014, Air Peace has steadily expanded its fleet, destinations, and service offerings, establishing itself as a dominant player in the region. The airline’s entry into long-haul routes, including services connecting Nigeria with major international cities, has heightened expectations among passengers and intensified competition within Africa’s aviation market.

The introduction of a premium lounge is therefore viewed as part of a deliberate strategy to deepen its presence in the high-yield travel segment.
