FAAN Dominates NIGAV Awards as Kuku’s Leadership Earns Top Industry Honour
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria emerged as one of the biggest winners at the 15th edition of the Nigeria Aviation Awards, held in Lagos on April 17, 2026, as its Managing Director and Chief Executive, Olubunmi Kuku, secured the coveted Aviation Personality of the Year Award.
The recognition highlights Mrs Kuku’s growing influence within Nigeria’s aviation industry and affirms her role in steering a period of significant transformation within FAAN.
Widely regarded as a reform-driven leader, she has overseen initiatives aimed at strengthening operational systems, upgrading airport facilities, and enhancing service delivery standards across the Authority’s network.
Her award, presented before an audience of aviation stakeholders, regulators, and industry professionals, symbolises both individual excellence and institutional progress.
Observers noted that FAAN’s renewed focus on efficiency, innovation, and global best practices has begun to yield tangible results, positioning the Authority more competitively within the international aviation landscape.

In addition to the top honour, FAAN recorded multiple wins across key operational categories, further cementing its reputation as a leading agency in Nigeria’s air transport sector.
Among the standout recognitions was the award presented to Luqman Emiola, Director of Human Resources and Administration, for his contributions to workforce development.
His efforts in staff training, organisational restructuring, and capacity building have been credited with strengthening FAAN’s internal systems and boosting productivity.
The Authority’s Protocol Services Unit also received commendation for excellence in service delivery, reflecting its consistent role in ensuring seamless coordination and high-quality passenger experiences, particularly for high-level travellers and official delegations.

Further reinforcing FAAN’s strong showing at the awards, several of its managed airports were recognised for improvements in infrastructure, safety compliance, and passenger facilitation. These included Osubi Airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, and Port Harcourt International Airport.
Industry analysts say the recognition of these airports reflects ongoing investments in infrastructure modernisation, improved safety systems, and enhanced passenger handling processes – key pillars in FAAN’s drive to meet international aviation benchmarks.
Collectively, the awards underscore FAAN’s strategic direction and its commitment to excellence, innovation, and service quality.
They also reinforce confidence in the Authority’s leadership as it continues to pursue reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s aviation sector into a more efficient, safe, and globally competitive industry.

The 15th NIGAV Awards once again served as a platform to celebrate outstanding contributions within the aviation ecosystem, with FAAN’s dominant performance standing as a testament to its evolving role as a catalyst for progress in the sector.
