Abia State University Honours Air Peace Boss Onyema with Fourth Doctorate, Applauds His Educational Advocacy
The Chairman of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, has added yet another feather to his cap with the conferment of an Honorary Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa) by Abia State University, in recognition of his far-reaching contributions to education, philanthropy and national development.
The honour, which represents Onyema’s fourth honorary doctorate, was bestowed during the university’s 32nd Convocation Ceremony, a landmark academic event attended by a distinguished assembly of scholars, policymakers and captains of industry.
The ceremony served as both a celebration of academic achievement and a platform to recognise individuals whose work has made significant societal impact.
Presiding over the event were key figures within the university’s leadership, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ndukwe J. Okeudo, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Agwu U. Agwu, and Registrar Dr Acho Elendu.
They were supported by members of the governing council, faculty heads and a delegation from Air Peace, underscoring the significance of the moment.
In a compelling acceptance speech, Onyema reiterated his steadfast belief in education as the cornerstone of national transformation.
He warned that no nation can achieve sustainable progress without prioritising education and called for a collaborative approach between government and private sector stakeholders.
“Education remains the most critical investment any nation can make. Without it, there can be no real development. Government cannot shoulder this responsibility alone; the private sector must play an active and committed role,” he declared.
The Air Peace Chairman also extended gratitude to the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, acknowledging his nomination as a demonstration of confidence in his contributions to societal growth.
He described the award as not just a personal milestone, but a recognition of collective efforts aimed at advancing the fortunes of Abia State and Nigeria.
Onyema’s growing list of honorary degrees reflects a career distinguished by impactful philanthropy and a sustained commitment to human capital development.
His interventions in education, alongside his leadership in aviation, have continued to position him as a prominent voice in conversations around inclusive growth and nation-building.
The honour further cements Onyema’s legacy as a business leader who has consistently leveraged his influence to drive social change, particularly in empowering young Nigerians through education and opportunity.
