Ground Handlers Defer Industrial Action as AGHAN Engages Airline Operators in Fresh Talks

The Association of Ground Handling Aviation Nigeria (AGHAN) has deferred its planned strike action following the receipt of formal communication from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), signalling a renewed commitment to dialogue amid ongoing industry concerns.

In a statement made available to aviation stakeholders and the public, AGHAN confirmed that the correspondence from AON addresses key issues affecting the sector and represents a meaningful step towards structured engagement.

The association noted that the development has opened a pathway for constructive discussions aimed at resolving long-standing concerns within Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

AGHAN stated that it is currently undertaking broad-based consultations with its members as well as other relevant stakeholders to carefully review the details of the communication.

According to the association, this consultative process is critical to forging a common position that reflects the collective interests of ground handling operators and supports the overall health of the aviation industry.

Consequently, the association announced that all previously considered industrial actions have been placed on hold pending the outcome of these engagements.

It added that further updates, including any decisions reached and the framework for resolution, would be communicated in due course.

Emphasising its dedication to the sector, AGHAN reiterated its commitment to ensuring stability, safety, and the uninterrupted flow of aviation services across the country.

It underscored its belief that sustained dialogue, mutual understanding, and strict adherence to due process remain the most effective tools for addressing disputes.

The association also appealed for calm among stakeholders, regulatory authorities, and the general public, assuring that ongoing engagements are being pursued in good faith with the aim of achieving a durable and mutually beneficial outcome.

The statement was jointly signed by AGHAN Chairman, Olaniyi Adigun, and Vice-Chairman, Ahmed Bashir, who reaffirmed the association’s resolve to work collaboratively with all parties to strengthen Nigeria’s aviation industry.
