Ethiopian Airlines introduced its new A350-1000 aircraft to Nigeria, making it the first airline on the continent to operate the cutting-edge Airbus model.

At a celebratory event held in Lagos, the General Manager of Ethiopian Airlines Nigeria, Mr. Wondwossen Beyene, addressed government officials, aviation professionals, and invited guests, highlighting the significance of this latest addition to the Ethiopian Airlines fleet.

“This marks a significant milestone in African aviation,” he began, “as Ethiopian Airlines becomes the first airline on the continent to introduce this state-of-the-art aircraft.”

The event celebrated the arrival of the A350-1000, known for its advanced design, aerodynamics, and fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.

Mr. Beyene underscored that this introduction represents Ethiopian Airlines’ enduring commitment to Nigeria, with this being the maiden commercial flight of the aircraft.

He described the aircraft as a “game-changer in the aviation industry, boasting unparalleled comfort, efficiency, and technological advancements.”

The A350-1000 comes equipped with revolutionary in-flight features aimed at enhancing the passenger experience.

Mr. Beyene highlighted the Thales AVANT Up in-flight entertainment system, a first in the airline industry, coupled with the HBC+ connectivity system, which delivers high-speed internet access, large HD screens, and unique amenities, such as a landscape camera offering an immersive travel experience.

The spacious seating arrangement also provides direct aisle access for all business class passengers, ensuring optimum comfort.

Beyond passenger convenience, the A350-1000 also supports increased cargo capacity, a factor that Mr. Beyene noted as vital for bolstering trade and economic ties between Africa and the global market.

“This aircraft will not only elevate the travel experience for passengers but also strengthen trade and economic ties between Africa and the rest of the world,” he remarked.

Mr. Beyene extended his appreciation to the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and the Lagos State Government, acknowledging their indispensable role in supporting Ethiopian Airlines in making this milestone possible.

As Ethiopian Airlines expects three additional A350-1000 aircraft in the coming months, Mr. Beyene invited all attendees to join him in celebrating what he described as an “aviation masterpiece.”

The aircraft was expertly piloted to Lagos by Captain Sisay Kebede, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Ethiopian Airlines’ service to Nigeria and the wider African region.
