The 20th edition of the Akwaaba African Travel Market, West Africa’s premier travel and tourism exhibition, is set to make history with its most diverse lineup yet, featuring high-profile international newcomers.

From September 22nd to 24th, 2024, the prestigious Eko Hotels & Suites in Lagos will host this landmark event, attracting leading figures from the travel, tourism, and healthcare industries.

Among the new participants making their debut are Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Nairobi from Kenya, Memorial Healthcare Group from Turkey, and Costa Cruises from Italy.

Their inclusion signifies the growing global interest in the African travel market, further enriching the event’s already prestigious reputation.

Mövenpick Hotel & Residence Nairobi, a symbol of luxury in the heart of Kenya’s capital, will showcase its exceptional African-themed design and world-class services at Akwaaba.

Renowned for its upscale hospitality, Mövenpick aims to forge connections with key stakeholders and explore new opportunities in the African travel market.

This marks a significant moment for the hotel as it seeks to expand its influence beyond East Africa.

Another significant debut comes from Turkey’s Memorial Healthcare Group, a leader in private healthcare services.

Known for its cutting-edge medical facilities, Memorial Healthcare’s participation underscores the increasing importance of medical tourism in Africa.

The group’s presence is expected to open new avenues for collaboration, blending healthcare and tourism in a way that could drive future growth in both sectors.

Costa Cruises, celebrated for its rich 75-year legacy and Italian hospitality, will also be a first-time participant at Akwaaba.

As the only cruise line flying the Italian flag, Costa Cruises aims to expand its footprint within Africa, bringing its world-class cruising experiences to a new audience.

This is a pivotal move as the cruise industry looks to tap into Africa’s growing tourism potential.

The 2024 edition of Akwaaba promises to be a transformative experience, celebrating two decades of shaping Africa’s travel and tourism landscape.

The event has long been a catalyst for fostering connections and collaborations across the continent.

This year’s event is expected to attract top government officials, industry leaders, and professionals, making it a vital platform for exploring innovative opportunities.

Over the years, Akwaaba has hosted a wide array of prominent African leaders and dignitaries, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the former Commonwealth Secretary, Sir Emeka Anyaoku.

The event’s legacy is further cemented by its successful initiatives like the Africa Travel 100 Awards, Medical Tourism editions, and the Africa Youth in Tourism Conference.

As Akwaaba African Travel Market approaches its 20th anniversary, it stands as a testament to its enduring commitment to promoting Africa’s rich travel and tourism tapestry.

With participants from over 50 countries, the 2024 event is poised to be a truly global celebration, continuing its legacy as a cornerstone of the African tourism industry.
