The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB), under the leadership of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has confirmed the appointment of a Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) and seven Assistant Comptrollers General (ACGs).

In addition, the Board has approved the promotion of 4,291 senior officers, marking a significant milestone in the Service’s commitment to excellence and inclusivity.

This development was announced during the Board’s 61st regular meeting held on 18 December 2024.

The newly confirmed members of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) management team include DCG S Chiroma (North-East) and ACGs ZM Gaji (North-East), OA Adebakin (South-West), GM Omale (North-Central), MS Yusuf (North-Central), DA Nnadi (South-East), HK Ejibunu (North-Central), and D Hassan (North-East).

The appointments are strategically aligned with the Federal Character Policy, ensuring representation from Nigeria’s geopolitical zones in adherence to Section 14(4) of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.

The promotion of 4,291 senior officers underscores the exemplary performance of both General Duty (GD) and Support Staff (SS) personnel in the 2024 promotion exercise.

The breakdown of promoted officers is as follows: 80 Deputy Comptrollers (DC) elevated to Customs Comptroller (CC), 151 Assistant Comptrollers (AC) promoted to Deputy Comptroller (DC), 612 Chief Superintendents of Customs (CSC) advanced to Assistant Comptroller (AC), 641 Superintendents of Customs (SC) elevated to Chief Superintendent of Customs (CSC).

This gesture honours his unwavering dedication and significant contributions to the NCS.

In a move to enhance operational efficiency, the Board approved the transfer of the Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Unit to the Office of the Comptroller General.

This restructuring elevates the PCA to a pivotal unit led by an Assistant Comptroller General, ensuring better oversight and alignment with global best practices.

To address the high turnover of senior management and safeguard institutional knowledge, a 12-month service extension was granted to select senior officers representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

These officers include: ACGs B Imam (North-East), IG Umar (North-West), and KC Egwu (South-East).

Comptrollers F Abdulqadri (North-Central), MT Awe (South-West), and OF Ojiefor (South-South).

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, congratulated the newly appointed, promoted, and retained officers, urging them to uphold the Service’s core values and mandates.
