FAAN Unveils Renovated Terminal with Eco-Friendly CNG Buses at Lagos Airport
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has taken a significant step towards elevating passenger comfort and sustainability with the unveiling of a refurbished E-Wing Departure Terminal and the introduction of four environmentally friendly compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
The event, held today at the terminal, marked a milestone in FAAN’s commitment to improving airport facilities and services.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, lauded FAAN’s initiatives, describing them as exemplary efforts to enhance the Nigerian travel experience.
During his remarks, Mr Keyamo highlighted the collaborative partnership between FAAN and the United Bank for Africa (UBA) in transforming the terminal.
“This remodelled E-Wing is an outcome of our collaboration with Hussling and UBA. The new design includes modern lighting, upgraded flooring, and more prominent advertising displays, all aimed at improving the passenger experience,” he said.
He also commended the addition of CNG-powered air-conditioned buses, describing it as a forward-thinking move aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for sustainable energy use.
“FAAN’s decision to invest in energy-efficient buses reflects the government’s commitment to reducing reliance on traditional fossil fuels and embracing eco-friendly practices,” he noted.
Mr Keyamo further assured Nigerians of continued reforms in airport infrastructure. “This is just the beginning. Next, we will focus on other parts of the airport, including the D-Wing’s departure and arrival areas. We are also working closely with the National Security Adviser to ensure seamless implementation of these reforms,” he stated.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, reiterated the organisation’s resolve to modernise airport facilities.
She disclosed plans for further investments in cooling systems, equipment upgrades, and infrastructure modernisation by 2025.
“We are expanding our facilities to meet future demands. The use of Terminal 2 and Terminal E allows us to decongest the airport while optimising capacity and flight scheduling,” she explained.
Mrs Kuku emphasised FAAN’s mission to ensure that Nigerian airports are sources of national pride, promising continued improvements to create a positive and enjoyable experience for passengers and stakeholders.
