Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana

Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the recently appointed Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has lauded the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for its strategic contribution to the safety and efficiency of air navigation in Nigeria.

During a working tour of NAMA’s corporate headquarters in Abuja, Dr Kana described the agency’s role as “very strategic and pivotal in the nation’s economic development.”

He commended the agency’s staff for their exemplary teamwork, dedication, and commitment to achieving organisational goals.

“Teamwork is the foundation of success, and your dedication will continue to propel NAMA to greater heights,” he emphasised, urging the staff to remain steadfast in their collaborative efforts.

Dr Kana noted that NAMA’s vision of becoming a leading air navigation service provider aligns with the strategic goals of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s mandate to elevate the aviation sector.

Addressing funding challenges exacerbated by fluctuating exchange rates, the Permanent Secretary pledged government support to resolve these issues.

He assured that he would work closely with the Minister to secure the funding required for NAMA’s critical projects.

Earlier, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NAMA, Engr Ahmed Umar Farouk, expressed gratitude for Dr Kana’s visit, which included a tour of the headquarters offices.

He described NAMA as the “heart of the aviation industry” and reiterated the agency’s unwavering commitment to safety in its operations.

Engr Farouk outlined the challenges facing NAMA, including limited funding for critical navigational infrastructure.

He revealed that some projects were only 50% completed due to funding constraints but expressed optimism that collaboration with the Permanent Secretary and the Honourable Minister would lead to their successful completion.

He also disclosed plans for constructing NAMA’s corporate headquarters at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

According to Engr Farouk, the Minister will perform the groundbreaking ceremony for this ambitious project.

The visit underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing the efficiency and safety of Nigeria’s aviation sector, with a renewed focus on collaboration and infrastructure development.
