The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commended the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) for its dedication to transparency, efficiency, and anti-corruption measures.

This recognition follows NAMA’s remarkable performance in the 2024 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) and the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) Effectiveness Index conducted by the ICPC across Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

In a Post Deployment letter dated 6th February 2025, the ICPC confirmed NAMA’s commendable compliance with ethical and financial guidelines. The agency was awarded an impressive 76.5% score in the EICS, signifying substantial compliance with anti-corruption standards, while it recorded a non-existent status in the ACTU Effectiveness Index.

Reacting to this achievement, the Managing Director of NAMA, Engr Umar Ahmed Farouk, expressed satisfaction, noting that the independent nature of the assessment validated NAMA’s commitment to ethical governance.

“We are delighted with this commendation coming from ICPC as an integrity watchdog. We are not surprised, anyway, because at NAMA, we are highly professional in our processes and procedures. We know that safety is sacrosanct, just like we maintain zero tolerance for corruption, so we won’t take this feat for granted,” Farouk stated.

He further reassured stakeholders that NAMA would continue to uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency in its financial dealings.

“Going forward, we will not relent but shall continue to improve on our current transparency and integrity rating. We will also align ourselves with Performance Indicators (KPIs) as dictated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs),” he added.

The Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) was introduced by the ICPC in 2019 as part of efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and innovation in the public sector. The initiative assesses MDAs to ensure compliance with ethical standards, improve institutional integrity, and enhance productivity.

This latest recognition further reinforces NAMA’s commitment to ethical excellence within the aviation sector and its role in advancing Nigeria’s airspace management with global best practices.
