Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Prioritises National Security, Strengthens Ties with Sister Agencies

The Customs Area Controller of the Tincan Island Port Command, Comptroller Frank Onyeka, has emphasised the need for all security agencies in the country to prioritise national security and enhance collaboration to safeguard the nation’s prosperity.
Comptroller Onyeka made this assertion while receiving the Commanding Officer of the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Badagry, Navy Captain Omotayo Busuyi Oyeleye, at his office in Lagos.
During the meeting, Comptroller Onyeka highlighted that beyond the Nigeria Customs Service’s (NCS) primary responsibilities of revenue generation, trade facilitation, and suppression of smuggling activities, the Tincan Island Port Command remains committed to forging a formidable synergy with all security agencies.
He stressed that such partnerships are essential to deterring criminal activities through the seaport, describing such illegal actions as detrimental to national development.
He commended the Nigerian Navy’s efforts in providing adequate maritime security and combating sea robberies, noting that their vigilance has significantly bolstered the security of Nigeria’s maritime domain.
“The importance of strong collaboration among security agencies cannot be overemphasised. A secure port environment is critical to national economic stability and growth,” Onyeka stated.
In his remarks, Navy Captain Oyeleye praised the Nigeria Customs Service for its consistent support during joint patrols. He acknowledged that the Customs’ input has been instrumental in the success of joint operations aimed at maintaining security along Nigeria’s coastal and maritime borders.
“The cooperation and proactive approach of the NCS have been pivotal in enhancing maritime security,” Oyeleye affirmed.
In a related development, Comptroller Onyeka embarked on a familiarisation visit to the Controllers of the Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS) at the PTML and Tincan Island Commands. The visit, held at the Quarantine office in Tincan, aimed at reinforcing collaboration between the NCS and NAQS.
During the visit, Comptroller Onyeka reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to integrating the Quarantine Service into its operational framework to enhance efficiency and strengthen border control measures.
He assured the Quarantine Service of continued partnership to facilitate smooth and secure trade operations.
The visit underscored the NCS’s dedication to fostering inter-agency cooperation, which Onyeka described as crucial to achieving a secure and prosperous trading environment.
