NDLEA Officers Injured in Gun Attack During Drug Raid in Abuja

A late-night drug raid by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the Jahi area of the Federal Capital Territory turned violent on Thursday as three officers sustained gunshot injuries in an ambush by unidentified armed men.
According to a press statement released by the Agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the officers had conducted an intelligence-led operation targeting an uncompleted building in the NNPC axis of Jahi, Abuja.
During the raid, the NDLEA team uncovered a cache of illicit drugs and paraphernalia, including 74 bottles of codeine, 10 litres of codeine syrup, 48 grammes of tramadol 225mg, 4.9 kilogrammes of skunk—a potent strain of cannabis—as well as five android phones.
However, the successful seizure was marred by a sudden gun attack as the officers exited the location. The assailants, whose identities remain unknown, opened fire on the operatives, injuring three personnel. One officer sustained a gunshot wound to the rib, while the other two were shot in the back and leg, respectively.
The wounded officers were promptly stabilised at the Police Clinic in Garki Area 1 before being transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for advanced medical care.
NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), expressed gratitude to the medical personnel at both facilities for their swift response.
He personally contacted the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital to oversee the treatment of the injured personnel and also spoke with the officers to convey his wishes for their speedy recovery.
While currently on official assignment in Kano, Gen. Marwa condemned the attack and assured the affected officers of the Agency’s full support.
He vowed that the NDLEA, in collaboration with other security agencies, will deploy all necessary resources to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice.
