FAAN Commissions State-of-the-Art Domestic Cargo Terminal at Lagos GAT

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in a bold move to strengthen aviation logistics and bolster export capacity, has officially commissioned a new domestic cargo processing facility at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), Lagos.

The milestone event marks a significant advancement in the Authority’s ongoing drive to modernise cargo handling operations across the country.

According to a statement signed by Mrs Obiageli Orah, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the new terminal was unveiled today by the Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms Joy Agunbiade.

The initiative is a direct result of the renewed emphasis placed on cargo infrastructure under the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo.

The Directorate of Cargo Development and Services, headed by Mr Lekan Thomas, spearheaded the project.

Described as a strategic game-changer, the facility is designed to enhance the efficiency, scalability, and connectivity of cargo operations at Lagos airport.

With the continued growth in e-commerce and agricultural exports, the terminal offers businesses a more reliable, secure, and streamlined logistics platform.

It is expected to significantly reduce existing bottlenecks in cargo movement while positioning Lagos as a pivotal hub for both domestic and international freight operations.

Speaking on the wider implications of the development, FAAN confirmed its plans to replicate this model in other states, including Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt.

The goal, according to the Authority, is to decentralise cargo processing and provide equitable access to modern logistics infrastructure nationwide.

“This facility not only supports the economic goals of the nation but also signals our commitment to fostering innovation and efficiency within the aviation sector,” said Ms Agunbiade at the event.

The commissioning marks a critical step in the execution of FAAN’s strategic roadmap aimed at optimising Nigeria’s cargo movement and reinforcing the country’s position in the global logistics chain.
