Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) PLC has added another feather to its cap with the conferment of the Safety Excellence Award at the 2025 Safety Week organised by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

The prestigious recognition, presented during the closing ceremony of the event held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA, celebrated SAHCO’s unwavering commitment to safety excellence, adherence to international best practices, and consistent contribution to safe ground handling operations within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Themed “Navigating Conflict for a Safer Aviation in Nigeria,” the 2025 FAAN Safety Week drew participation from major stakeholders across the aviation industry, including airlines, regulatory agencies, ground handling companies, and safety professionals.

Discussions centred on conflict management strategies, the promotion of a safety-driven culture, and the shared responsibility of all players in building a resilient and secure air transport system.

Receiving the award on behalf of the company, Mrs Vanessa Uansohia, SAHCO’s Head of Corporate Communications, expressed deep appreciation to FAAN for recognising the company’s consistent pursuit of safety excellence.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and professionalism of our entire team,” she said. “At SAHCO, safety is not just a policy – it is a culture embedded in every aspect of our operations. We are committed to continuously improving our systems, training, and equipment to meet and exceed international standards.”

Uansohia reaffirmed that safety remains a core part of SAHCO’s philosophy, noting that the company’s achievements are built on sustained investment in technology, innovation, and human capital development.

Over the years, SAHCO PLC has established itself as one of the most trusted names in aviation ground handling in Nigeria. The company consistently adheres to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) Safety Audit for Ground Operations (ISAGO) standards, ensuring its operations are safe, efficient, and compliant with global benchmarks across all airports where it operates.

Beyond compliance, SAHCO implements a comprehensive Safety Management System (SMS) that includes regular internal safety audits, staff retraining, and emergency response simulations.

These initiatives, Uansohia noted, are designed to enhance situational awareness and operational readiness, thereby maintaining the company’s enviable record of reliability and safety.

Industry observers have often commended SAHCO for its proactive approach to safety management and for consistently raising the bar in ground handling excellence.

Its track record of innovation and quality service delivery continues to reinforce its leadership role within the Nigerian aviation industry.

The FAAN Safety Week, an annual flagship programme, serves as a platform for stakeholders to share insights, develop safety strategies, and celebrate individuals and organisations making remarkable contributions to the advancement of safety in aviation.

By recognising SAHCO with the Safety Excellence Award, FAAN reaffirmed the company’s standing as a safety-driven and forward-thinking organisation committed to strengthening Nigeria’s aviation ecosystem.

With this latest honour, SAHCO PLC once again demonstrates its enduring dedication to providing world-class ground handling services anchored on professionalism, integrity, and operational excellence.

“Safety is the heartbeat of our operations,” Uansohia concluded. “This award inspires us to keep improving, innovating, and contributing to a safer, stronger, and more sustainable aviation industry in Nigeria.”
