Overland Airways Resumes Ibadan–Abuja Flights with Thrice-Weekly Services from December 23

Overland Airways has announced the recommencement of flight operations between Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, restoring direct air connectivity between the two key cities after months of suspension occasioned by airport upgrade works.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday, the airline disclosed that the services will resume with effect from December 23, 2025, operating three times weekly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

According to the schedule, flights will depart Ibadan for Abuja at 10:30 a.m., while the return leg from Abuja to Ibadan will take off at 12:00 noon.

Chief Operating Officer of Overland Airways, Mrs Aderonke Emmanuel-James, described the resumption of services as a significant milestone for the airline and the people of the South-West and North-Central regions.

“As the pioneer airline on the Ibadan route, Overland Airways is excited to return to Ibadan to continue the excellent flight services we have provided to the people of Ibadan, Oyo State and Osun State over the past 22 years,” she said. “We equally wish to congratulate the Government of Oyo State for the extensive improvement works at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport, Ibadan.”

Ibadan International Airport was closed in March 2025 to allow for major upgrades and facility improvements aimed at enhancing safety, capacity and passenger experience. The completion of the upgrade has paved the way for the return of scheduled commercial flights.

Overland Airways noted that the Ibadan–Abuja route will be operated with its newly acquired 88-seat Embraer 175 aircraft, configured with both Premium and Economy cabins, offering passengers enhanced comfort and a modern onboard experience.

Mrs Emmanuel-James further reassured passengers of the airline’s commitment to dependable operations, stating: “We assure our esteemed customers of reliable and consistent flight services.”

The airline’s return to Ibadan is expected to boost economic activities, ease business travel and strengthen socio-economic ties between Oyo State and the Federal Capital Territory, particularly for government officials, business executives and other frequent travellers.

Founded in 2002, Overland Airways operates scheduled and charter passenger and cargo services, with a core mission of improving connectivity across Nigeria’s hinterland.
