Eid-el-Kabir: Customs Boss Adeniyi Urges Nigerians to Embrace Unity, Sacrifice, Patriotism
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has called on Nigerians to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, patriotism, patience and national unity as Muslims across the world celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.
Adeniyi made the appeal on Wednesday after observing Eid prayers at the Modakeke Eid Ground in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he urged citizens to reflect on the spiritual significance of the Islamic festival and apply its lessons towards national development and peaceful coexistence.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the prayers, the Customs boss described Eid-el-Kabir as a solemn period that reminds Muslims of the importance of obedience to Almighty Allah, sacrifice and total submission to divine instruction, drawing lessons from the story of Prophet Abraham.
According to him, the celebration should not merely be viewed as a period of festivities, but as a time for deep reflection on faith, patience, discipline and service to humanity.
“We all know what Eid symbolises. It symbolises obedience to Almighty Allah and sacrifice. These are values every Muslim is expected to imbibe in daily life,” Adeniyi stated.
He also expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for preserving the lives of Nigerians to witness another Eid-el-Kabir celebration in peace and good health.

The CGC further stressed the need for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians irrespective of ethnic, religious or social differences, noting that national unity remains essential for the country’s progress and stability.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country, and we all must unite ourselves,” he said.
Adeniyi urged Nigerians to remain law-abiding and responsible while exercising their civic rights, emphasising that discipline, patience and respect for the rule of law are necessary ingredients for sustainable development.
“We must continue to embrace unity, discipline, sacrifice and patriotism for the development of our country. Nigerians should remain patient, respect the rule of law and continue to support peaceful national progress,” he added.
Speaking on the activities of the Nigeria Customs Service, the CGC expressed satisfaction with the Service’s performance in key operational areas, including revenue generation, trade facilitation and anti-smuggling operations.
He maintained that the Service remains focused on supporting economic growth, strengthening national security and promoting export activities in line with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
According to Adeniyi, reforms being implemented within the Service are already improving Customs operations and enhancing efficiency across various commands, while export activities have continued to record steady growth.
“The NCS is on the right trajectory in revenue generation, trade facilitation, security and economic prosperity. Export activities are increasing steadily in line with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he stated.
The Customs boss reaffirmed the commitment of the Service to sustaining reforms aimed at boosting trade, improving revenue collection and supporting the Federal Government’s broader economic objectives.
