Access emerges as Nigeria’s largest employer of CFA candidates

Access has emerged as Nigeria’s largest employer of candidates pursuing the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) qualification, in a ranking published by CFA Society Nigeria.

The ranking, released as part of the society’s Where Nigeria’s Finance Professionals Work series and published in a national daily, showed that Access has 82 CFA candidates within its workforce.

The figure is more than twice the number recorded by the next-ranked organisation, making Access the largest employer of CFA candidates among financial services institutions in Nigeria.

The Group also ranked second among employers of CFA charterholders, indicating a combination of established investment professionals and a sizeable pipeline of employees working towards the globally recognised qualification.

The rankings were compiled by CFA Society Nigeria from its Salesforce Membership Database, using membership data as of June 2026.

The recognition highlights the growing emphasis on professional development and technical expertise within Nigeria’s financial services sector as institutions seek to strengthen their capacity to operate in increasingly sophisticated and interconnected markets.

The CFA qualification is widely regarded as one of the most rigorous professional credentials in investment management. Its curriculum covers areas including ethical and professional standards, financial analysis, portfolio management and investment decision-making.

For Access, the ranking reflects a broader strategy of investing in professional training, certification and leadership development across its businesses.

Access Holdings operates across banking, pensions, payments, insurance brokerage and consumer lending, with operations spanning 25 countries in Africa, Europe and Asia. The Group said its investment in professional development forms part of its strategy of creating sustainable long-term value.

Industry observers have increasingly identified the development of highly skilled financial professionals as an important competitive advantage for institutions seeking to expand beyond domestic markets.

A strong pipeline of professionals trained to internationally recognised standards can help financial institutions strengthen risk management, corporate governance and investment decision-making while improving their ability to respond to changing customer expectations and market conditions.

The recognition also comes against the backdrop of growing efforts to position African financial institutions to compete more effectively in global capital markets.

Beyond the number of candidates, the ranking highlights the potential impact of sustained investment in professional expertise on the wider financial services ecosystem.

Access said developing professionals capable of meeting international standards would contribute to strengthening confidence among customers, investors, regulators and other stakeholders.

Commenting on the recognition, Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Innocent C. Ike, said the achievement reflected a culture in which continuous learning and professional excellence were central to the organisation’s growth.

“We are proud that so many of our people are pursuing one of the most demanding professional qualifications in global finance, and that they are choosing to do it here, at Access. These rankings reflect a deliberate culture of excellence, one where rigour, integrity and continuous learning are not slogans but the way we work every day. Every candidate on that list represents our commitment to building institutions and professionals that endure.”

CFA Society Nigeria, which is part of the global CFA Institute network, said the rankings recognised organisations that invest in professionals committed to rigour, integrity and global best practices.

The society said such investment was becoming increasingly important to the development of Nigeria’s financial sector and the achievement of the continent’s long-term economic ambitions.

Access said the recognition aligns with Access Holdings’ aspiration to become the world’s most respected African financial services group.

While the size of an institution remains an important indicator of its growth, the ability to develop professionals who meet internationally recognised standards is increasingly viewed as a measure of institutional quality, resilience and credibility.

With 82 CFA candidates, Access is therefore positioning its achievement not merely as an internal workforce milestone but as part of a broader contribution to raising professional standards within Nigeria’s financial services industry.

The Group’s growing pool of CFA candidates and charterholders could also strengthen its capacity to participate in increasingly complex investment and capital-market activities as African economies become more integrated with global financial markets.

The recognition consequently places talent development alongside financial scale and geographical expansion as an important component of Access Holdings’ strategy for building a pan-African financial services institution.
