Air Peace Boss Applauds Fidelity Bank’s $400m Eurobond Repayment, Recapitalisation Success
Dr Allen Onyema, Chairman, Air Peace LTD

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr Allen Onyema, has praised Fidelity Bank Plc for successfully redeeming its $400 million Eurobond at maturity, describing the feat as a significant endorsement of the bank’s financial resilience, sound management and institutional credibility.

Onyema said the successful repayment, achieved entirely through the bank’s internal liquidity, demonstrated its capacity to meet major financial obligations while maintaining stability and strengthening its position in Nigeria’s competitive banking sector.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of Air Peace’s Board, Management and staff, the airline chief commended Fidelity Bank for honouring its obligations throughout the five-year lifespan of the Eurobond, noting that the repayment reflected deliberate financial planning and disciplined resource management.

He particularly acknowledged the leadership of the bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, crediting her strategic direction with strengthening the institution’s financial position and enhancing its standing in the banking industry.

According to Onyema, the successful settlement of the international debt obligation, alongside the bank’s completion of its recapitalisation exercise ahead of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) stipulated deadline, underscores the effectiveness of its corporate governance framework and long-term business strategy.

He described the two accomplishments as important milestones that reinforce confidence in the bank’s ability to navigate financial obligations, respond to regulatory requirements and sustain its operations in a challenging economic environment.

The Air Peace boss also used the occasion to draw attention to the importance of a strong banking sector in driving growth across other critical segments of the Nigerian economy, particularly aviation.

He noted that aviation is a capital-intensive industry requiring substantial and sustained financial commitments for aircraft acquisition, fleet expansion, maintenance, operational requirements and infrastructure development.

Onyema stressed that financially strong banks such as Fidelity Bank play an important role in supporting indigenous businesses, especially local airlines seeking to expand their operations and compete with international carriers.

He maintained that access to reliable financing and strong institutional partnerships would remain essential to the survival, expansion and competitiveness of Nigerian enterprises.

The airline chairman further observed that closer collaboration between financial institutions and indigenous businesses could accelerate private-sector investment, strengthen local capacity and contribute to Nigeria’s broader economic development objectives.

He congratulated Onyeali-Ikpe, the bank’s Board, Management and employees for delivering what he described as an outstanding institutional achievement.

Onyema expressed confidence that Fidelity Bank would build on the successes recorded to pursue greater milestones, while reaffirming Air Peace’s goodwill towards the financial institution.

He wished the bank continued growth, financial stability and greater accomplishments in Nigeria’s financial services industry.
