Accra Weizo – West African Travel Expo returns with exciting four-nation road trip
The 7th edition of the Accra Weizo West African Travel Expo, hosted by Akwaaba Travel Market in collaboration with the Ghana Tourism Authority, is set to commence with a unique four-nation road trip aimed at promoting seamless travel within West Africa.
Scheduled to begin on June 24 and culminate in a Conference and Exhibition on June 28 at the Accra City Hotel, this year’s event promises a blend of business, networking, and cultural experiences.
The travel expo is designed to encourage West Africans to explore the region, fostering a sense of a unified domestic market.
By doing so, Accra Weizo aims to harness the economic opportunities and tourism potential within West Africa.
The 2024 edition features a road trip traversing the Benin Republic, Togo, and Ghana.
A delegation of 20 tour and travel professionals from Nigeria will join 15 tour operators from Ghana, Benin, and Togo at the Seme border, embarking on an exciting journey that will highlight the rich cultural tapestry of these nations.
Highlights of the itinerary include:
– June 24: Exploring Benin, with activities showcasing the country’s vibrant culture.
– June 25: Discovering the scenic and historical sites of Togo.
– June 26: Enjoying the picturesque town of Akosombo in Ghana.
– June 27: Arriving in Accra in preparation for the main event on June 28.
The tour will include various engaging activities such as nightlife exploration, a boat cruise, business-to-business (B2B) networking sessions, and the prestigious Balafon Award of Excellence.
Delegates will be welcomed with a cocktail reception at the Kempinski Hotel.
Tour operators from Kenya and other nations will join the group in Akosombo, enriching the event’s diversity and international appeal.
Accra Weizo enjoys support from several notable organisations, including GOTA Voyages Benin, Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), ABC Transport, Accra City Hotel, and Royal Senchi Resorts.
The event is powered by Akwaaba African Travel Market and ATQ News.
In previous years, the expo has attracted distinguished guests such as His Royal Highness Nene Nagai Kassa VIII, Honourable Mike A. Gizo, and various members of the diplomatic corps, including Lulu Xingwana, High Commissioner of South Africa to Ghana, and other ambassadors from Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.
After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the travel expo made a triumphant return in 2023.
This year’s edition continues to build on its mission to make West Africa a prominent and accessible travel destination.
