Adeniyi Crowned ‘Public Service Person of the Year’ for Transformative Leadership in Customs

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, has been conferred with the prestigious title of Public Service Person of the Year 2024 by the Leadership Group in recognition of his outstanding leadership and reforms within the service.
The award was presented during the 17th edition of the Leadership Conference and Awards, held in Abuja, where top-performing individuals across the public and private sectors were celebrated for their contributions to national development.
According to the Leadership Group, the organisers of the event, Adeniyi was selected after a rigorous assessment process involving over ten distinguished government officials.
The media organisation lauded the Customs chief for spearheading a new era marked by transparency, operational excellence, and enhanced revenue generation, all of which have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s economic stability.
“In his short time as Comptroller-General, Adeniyi has demonstrated transformative leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service, ushering in reforms that have increased efficiency, promoted transparency, and boosted government revenue,” the organisers stated.
Adeniyi, who was accompanied to the event by his wife, Mrs Kikelomo Adeniyi, and senior officers of the NCS, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and reiterated his unwavering commitment to trade facilitation, revenue enhancement, and the fight against smuggling.
“This award is not just about me; it reflects the collective commitment to transparency, efficiency, and national development,” the Customs CG said during his acceptance speech.
He further attributed the honour to the dedication of personnel within the Service, noting that the recognition would serve as motivation to deepen reforms and drive innovation.
Reaffirming his agenda for the Service, Adeniyi underscored his vision of modernisation and leadership driven by integrity and accountability.
He also emphasised the strategic importance of effective border management in safeguarding national security.
The Comptroller-General was honoured alongside several eminent personalities, including Africa’s foremost industrialist Alhaji Aliko Dangote; Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; and governors Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Abba Yusuf (Kano).
Other awardees included members of the National Assembly and notable figures from the private sector.
The event served as a platform to recognise excellence in governance and public service, with CG Adeniyi’s accolade standing as a testament to the impactful reforms underway in the Nigeria Customs Service.
