Adeniyi Inspects Kano Customs College, Assesses Readiness for 2026 Recruits
The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, has inspected the Customs Training College, Goron Dutse, Kano, as part of efforts to ensure the institution is fully prepared for the commencement of the 2025/2026 Customs Basic Training Programme.
Adeniyi carried out the inspection on Saturday, 29 August 2026, with the visit focused on assessing the readiness of the training institution to receive and accommodate newly recruited personnel expected to undergo basic training.
The inspection covered the college’s facilities, ongoing projects, logistics and other critical requirements considered necessary for the successful commencement of the recruitment training programme.
The visit formed part of broader preparations by the NCS for the training of successful candidates from its latest recruitment exercise, with the Comptroller-General seeking to ascertain that the institution had adequate facilities and a conducive environment for the recruits.
On arrival at the college, Adeniyi was received by the Zonal Coordinator, Zone B, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs Nsikan Umoh; Comptroller, Federal Operations Unit Zone B, Aminu Sule; Commandant of the Customs Training College, Deputy Comptroller of Customs Umar Atiku; alongside other principal officers and heads of units.
During the inspection, the Comptroller-General emphasised the importance of adequate preparation ahead of the arrival of the recruits, stressing that the quality of training provided to new personnel would be critical to their effectiveness and professionalism within the Service.
Adeniyi reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to providing the necessary facilities, logistics and other support required to create an enabling environment for effective training and capacity development.
He said the Customs Training College must be sufficiently equipped to deliver professional basic training capable of preparing recruits for the responsibilities that come with serving in the NCS.
The Comptroller-General’s assessment also provided an opportunity to review ongoing developments at the institution and identify areas requiring attention before the commencement of the training programme.
Briefing Adeniyi during the visit, the Commandant of the Customs Training College, Umar Atiku, outlined the institution’s activities, ongoing projects and the measures being implemented to prepare for the arrival of the incoming recruits.
Following the briefing, the Comptroller-General embarked on a tour of various facilities within the college to personally assess their condition and level of preparedness.
The inspection included a review of the institution’s infrastructure and other facilities required to support the training of the recruits, with attention given to ensuring that the college is capable of accommodating the expected influx of trainees.
The visit underscores the NCS’s emphasis on strengthening human capacity as part of its broader efforts to improve operational effectiveness and professionalism.
With the recruitment exercise expected to bring new personnel into the Service, the training programme is expected to provide the recruits with the foundational knowledge, discipline and professional skills required to discharge their duties effectively.
The Goron Dutse training facility remains one of the institutions through which the NCS develops the capacity of its personnel, making its readiness particularly important as the Service prepares to commence the latest phase of recruitment training.
Adeniyi’s inspection is therefore expected to help ensure that outstanding logistical, infrastructural and operational requirements are addressed ahead of the recruits’ arrival and the formal commencement of the training programme.
