A three-man delegation from the Africa World Airlines (AWA) paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, on Wednesday, 25th September 2024, in Abuja.

According to a statement from the airline, the visit coincided with the launch of AWA’s new mobile app and an exciting in-flight initiative called “Celebrations in the Air.”

The delegation, led by AWA’s Head of Commercial, Mr. Jonathan Kofi Appiah, aimed to further consolidate the relationship between the airline and the Ghana High Commission, which has supported AWA throughout its operations in Nigeria.

The meeting began with a warm exchange of pleasantries, where H.E. Vice Admiral Seth Amoama reaffirmed the Mission’s dedication to supporting Ghanaian businesses abroad.

He highlighted AWA’s unique position as the only airline offering daily direct flights between Accra and Abuja, urging the airline to capitalise on this advantage by increasing the frequency of flights to boost tourism between Ghana and Nigeria.

During the discussions, Vice Admiral Amoama also proposed the idea of offering discounted fares to the members of the Ghanaian diplomatic mission, to facilitate their frequent travel between Accra and Abuja.

He expressed optimism that such an arrangement would foster closer ties between both countries while easing travel logistics for mission staff.

In response, Mr. Appiah expressed gratitude for the continuous patronage of AWA’s services by the High Commission and acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the two entities.

He proudly announced the upcoming introduction of a new in-flight experience, “Celebration in the Air,” which would enhance passengers’ experience on the Abuja and Lagos routes.

He also officially launched AWA’s new mobile app, designed to offer passengers a more seamless booking experience.

Mr. Appiah further assured the High Commissioner of the airline’s unwavering commitment to safety and on-time departures, emphasising that these have been hallmarks of AWA’s operations on the Abuja route for the past seven years.

Mr. Joseph Sunday Akpan, AWA’s Abuja Station Manager, also attended the meeting and hinted that the airline’s management would seriously consider the High Commissioner’s request for rebated fares for mission staff.

He noted that any decision made on this front would be communicated directly from the airline’s head office.

Sales and Marketing Manager Mr. Aaron Nortey, who was also part of the delegation, echoed Mr. Appiah’s sentiments and emphasised AWA’s dedication to providing a premium experience for its passengers.

Before the meeting concluded, H.E. Vice Admiral Amoama welcomed the team’s suggestions and asked the airline to review its baggage allowance policies, ensuring more passenger-friendly options.

He also encouraged AWA to continue exploring innovative strategies to encourage more travel to Ghana and reaffirmed the Mission’s readiness to support the airline’s growth.

As a token of appreciation, the AWA delegation presented H.E. Vice Admiral Amoama with airline souvenirs.

The courtesy visit ended on a positive note, with both parties looking forward to a continued fruitful partnership.

AWA, a Ghanaian airline operating across West Africa, remains committed to expanding its operations and enhancing the passenger experience through new innovations like the mobile app and in-flight programmes.
