Africa World Airlines (AWA), Ghana’s foremost airline and the longest-serving carrier on the Lagos–Accra route, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its operations and providing passengers with enhanced travel options.

Speaking at a Trade Partners’ Forum and Award Reception in Lagos, AWA’s Head of Commercial, Mr Jonathan Kofi Appiah, highlighted the airline’s resilience in an industry where most carriers on the Lagos–Accra route last no more than a decade.

He noted that AWA had surpassed this benchmark and continues to maintain its reputation for safety, security, and operational excellence.

“We pride ourselves on being the leading carrier on this route with an impressive on-time performance. This is because we always do all we can to ensure that our flights depart and arrive on schedule at our various destinations. And in the near future, we hope to offer our guests more travel options with plans to commence flights to Port Harcourt,” Mr Appiah said.

AWA’s Country Manager in Lagos, Mr Kingsley Chima, acknowledged the challenges the airline faced in restoring its pre-pandemic flight frequencies but assured stakeholders that efforts were underway to increase daily flights.

“Since recovering from COVID, we have been struggling to return to five flights daily. However, our immediate goal is to take it to three daily flights, and we plan to restore the early morning flights out of Accra and Lagos. We are here today and have survived this long because you supported us and keep supporting us, and we would like to thank you,” he said.

The airline’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Mr Aaron Nortey, reaffirmed AWA’s core values of safety, efficiency, punctuality, cost-consciousness, and reliability.

He used the forum to address key concerns raised by trade partners, including issues related to name corrections, ticket voiding, change policies, and refunds.

In recognition of the vital role played by its trade partners, AWA presented awards to its top three Nigerian BSP (Billing and Settlement Plan) winners for their outstanding performance in the past financial year.

Satguru Travels emerged in first place, Wakanow took second place, while Quantum Travels secured third place.

Additionally, Mr Appiah announced AWA’s plans to adopt the New Distribution Capability (NDC) technology, a move aimed at enhancing its trade partners’ ability to offer customers more personalised travel solutions.
