Air Peace Chairman Honoured with Prestigious Award for Outstanding Support to Nigerian Army
Chairman of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, has been recognised by the Nigerian Army with the prestigious award for “Outstanding Support/Service to the Nigerian Army” during the 2024 Nigerian Army Day Celebration.
The ceremony took place at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Plateau State.
The event saw the attendance of prominent figures including the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, His Excellency Barr Caleb Mutfwang, Governor of Plateau State, and the Governor of Taraba State, His Excellency Agbu Kefas.
Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, emphasised that the award acknowledges Onyema’s continuous efforts in leveraging his airline and other enterprises to enhance Nigeria’s socio-economic landscape and his exceptional service to the nation and humanity at large.
Dr. Onyema’s commitment to the Nigerian military dates back to the inception of Air Peace in 2014 when he launched a special initiative offering Nigerian military personnel a significant fare reduction. Officers could travel on Air Peace flights at a reduced fare of 10,000 naira.
Further solidifying his support, Air Peace introduced a priority boarding policy for military officers in 2022, a gesture aimed at honouring and acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the country.
“It is our way of saying thank you for all they are doing for the country,” Onyema remarked, underlining his dedication to motivating and supporting the nation’s military.
In September 2023, Onyema announced his intention to extend rebates on flight tickets to retired military officers during his conferment with a Doctor of Management Science Degree by the Nigerian Defence Academy at its 33rd Convocation Ceremony in Kaduna.
Dr. Onyema’s unwavering support for the Nigerian military and his substantial contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic development serve as a testament to his dedication and vision as a Pan-Nigerian nationalist.
