Air Peace Chairman Inducted as Distinguished Human Rights Defender at NHRC 30th Anniversary
Air Peace Limited’s Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allen Ifechukwu Onyema, has been honoured with the prestigious Distinguished Human Rights Defender induction by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), in recognition of his longstanding commitment to promoting peace, justice, and humanitarian causes in Nigeria and beyond.
The honour was conferred during the Commission’s 30th Anniversary celebration held in Abuja, where leaders in governance, civil society, and advocacy gathered to reflect on three decades of safeguarding human rights in the country.
The induction was presented by the Executive Secretary of the NHRC and President of the Network of National Human Rights Institutions in West Africa (NNHRI-WA), Dr Tony Ojukwu, OFR, SAN.
Representing Dr Onyema at the ceremony was Air Peace’s Corporate Communications Lead, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, who received the induction certificate on his behalf.
The event acknowledged Dr Onyema’s exceptional role in championing social justice initiatives, supporting conflict resolution efforts, and extending humanitarian assistance – most notably through interventions in regional crises, repatriation flights, and peace-building engagements.
Dr Ojukwu commended Dr Onyema for his unwavering dedication to advancing the cause of human dignity and national cohesion, noting that the recognition reflects the NHRC’s appreciation of individuals whose actions have significantly strengthened human rights protection across West Africa.
Air Peace, Nigeria’s largest airline, has frequently been at the forefront of humanitarian and national service missions under Dr Onyema’s leadership, further solidifying the company’s reputation as a socially responsible corporate entity.
The NHRC’s 30th Anniversary celebration highlighted sustained efforts to defend citizens’ rights, promote accountability, and foster partnerships aimed at achieving a more just society.
