Air Peace Chairman urges Nigerians to support local investments, embrace peace amid challenges
Dr. Allen Onyema, Chairman of Air Peace, the largest carrier in West and Central Africa, has urged Nigerians to rally behind local enterprises to invigorate the nation’s economy.
In his address at the Silverbird Man of the Year Awards on Sunday, March 3, 2024, Onyema passionately implored his fellow countrymen and women to eschew violence and prioritise peace, especially amidst the formidable challenges confronting the nation.
Highlighting the pivotal role of patronising indigenous businesses in propelling economic growth, Onyema underscored the imperative for Nigerians to ‘support their own’ rather than engaging in activities detrimental to local enterprises.
Emphasising the need to cultivate a sense of broad nationalism while discouraging sentiments of ethnic and religious divisions, Onyema cautioned that persisting in favouring foreign enterprises over local brands would perpetuate economic setbacks for the country.
Drawing attention to Air Peace’s recent initiative of offering reduced fares for its London service as a patriotic gesture to alleviate travel costs for Nigerians along the UK route, Onyema illustrated how this move compelled foreign competitors to adjust their pricing strategies.
He stressed that supporting Nigerian businesses is an act of patriotism that should be embraced by all citizens.
Echoing Onyema’s sentiments, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, CEO of Silverbird Group, echoed the importance of bolstering local enterprises for sustainable economic development, stressing that neglecting indigenous businesses undermines the nation’s economic progress.
Acknowledging Nigeria’s current economic challenges, Onyema urged Nigerians to support the efforts of the Tinubu government and allow time for economic stabilization.
Onyema’s impassioned plea for solidarity towards local businesses resonates as a call to action for Nigerians to prioritise national unity and economic resilience in the face of adversity.
