Air Traffic Engineers across the country have been commended for their dedication and commitment to ensuring that communication and navigational infrastructure under their care remains in optimal condition at all times.

The commendation was given by the Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services (DSEES), Engr Terese Ihenachor, at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the National Association of Air Traffic Engineers (NAAE), Lagos Chapter.

She lauded the chapter’s longstanding tradition of organising local AGMs, describing them as vital platforms for fostering professional interaction, knowledge sharing, and social engagement.

Engr Ihenachor, who was represented by Engr Ishaya Dung, General Manager, Workshop, Planning and Logistics, encouraged the engineers to sustain their progressive spirit. She assured them that the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), under the leadership of Engr Ahmed Umar Farouk, FNSE, remained committed to providing necessary tools, spare parts, and training to support their efforts.

She urged the engineers to build on their achievements while addressing any deficiencies, noting that continuous improvement was key to providing safe, efficient, and cost-effective air navigation services.

Speaking on the AGM’s theme, ‘The ATSEP Mindset for Impact,’ Engr Ihenachor described it as timely, emphasising that air traffic safety electronics personnel (ATSEP) play a crucial role in ensuring the safety, efficiency, and reliability of global aviation systems.

She stated: “Our work does not just keep the lights on but keeps the skies safe, the industry moving, and the world connected. Embracing a safety-first mindset means prioritising proactive maintenance, risk assessment, and compliance with stringent regulatory standards. This commitment ensures that aviation infrastructure remains robust and dependable.”

She further highlighted that the ATSEP mindset for impact embodies a combination of technical expertise, ethical responsibility, and a commitment to professional growth.

By embracing these principles, she noted, ATSEP professionals not only guarantee safe skies but also drive innovation and shape the future of aviation.

In his welcome address, the Lagos Chapter Chairman, Engr Bolaji Ahmed, expressed gratitude to members for their unwavering dedication and support.

He reflected on the chapter’s journey, challenges, and achievements, commending the engineering community for their passion and commitment.

“As we gather here today, we are reminded of the journey we’ve undertaken together—the challenges we’ve faced, the milestones we’ve achieved, and our shared commitment to promoting our association as well as enhancing air navigation services,” he remarked.

He further noted that the chapter had recorded significant success in both local and international training as well as improved welfare packages for members.

“This event marks another chapter in our ongoing pursuit of excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Over the course of this gathering, we will have the opportunity to share ideas, discuss pressing issues, and explore new ways to strengthen our collective impact,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Lagos Chapter of NAAE has elected new executives to pilot the affairs of the association for the next two years. The newly elected officers are:

Chairman: ATSEP Bolaji Ahmed
Vice Chairman: ATSEP Nneka Ezike
Secretary: ATSEP Lilian Uzodiagu
Financial Secretary: ATSEP Mary Adeyeye
Treasurer: ATSEP Hope Agala
Public Relations Officer: ATSEP Joy Ijehon

The AGM concluded with a renewed commitment by members to uphold the highest standards in air traffic engineering and contribute to the safety and efficiency of Nigeria’s aviation sector.
