Airline Operators Applaud FAAN’s Leadership for Transformative Airport Management
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has been lauded for its ongoing efforts to transform the country’s airports under the leadership of its Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku.
This commendation came from the Vice President of the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace, Dr. Allen Onyema, during a pivotal meeting organized by FAAN’s management to address pressing issues within the aviation industry.
The meeting, held at the New Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, saw the presence of executives from 20 airlines, all gathered to discuss the future of Nigeria’s airport management.
The session, spearheaded by Mrs. Kuku, aimed to provide insight into FAAN’s strategic plans for airport development while seeking feedback from the airline operators to enhance service delivery, ultimately benefiting passengers.
Mrs. Kuku set the tone for the meeting with a comprehensive presentation outlining her administration’s priority programs.
These include initiatives focused on Safety, Security, Culture Transformation, Digital Transformation, Service Quality, and Revenue Generation.
She expressed her ambition to position FAAN as one of the leading airport management companies in sub-Saharan Africa within the next decade, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with AON to achieve this vision.
In his response, Dr. Onyema voiced the collective approval of AON members, highlighting the noticeable improvements in FAAN’s operations.
He praised the transparent and responsible approach of FAAN and the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo SAN, towards airport management.
“When the government does what is wrong, you can say it, but what is happening in FAAN is commendable.
“The desire to do good is very, very transparent. You can see it. So, why won’t we have confidence in the system? This is no more fighting time; this is time for collaboration,” Dr. Onyema stated.
The meeting featured presentations from key FAAN directors, including Engineer Abiola Muniru Adejare, Director of Engineering Services; Captain Abdullahi Mahmood, Director of Airport Operations; Mr. Henry Agbebire, Director of Special Duties; and ACP Afegbai Albert Igbafe (Rtd), Director of Aviation Security Services.
Each director provided detailed updates on ongoing efforts to elevate service quality across Nigeria’s airports.
Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, attended the meeting alongside her media team, ensuring comprehensive coverage of the proceedings.
The discussions culminated in several resolutions, such as the need for more frequent meetings between FAAN and AON, faster response times to AON’s correspondences, continued improvements in airport infrastructure, and the digitalisation of revenue collection processes.
The Authority was urged to maintain its momentum in providing the high-quality service that both airline operators and passengers have come to appreciate.
FAAN’s leadership, under Mrs. Kuku’s guidance, has indeed set a new standard in airport management, earning the trust and confidence of the nation’s airline operators as they work together to shape the future of aviation in Nigeria.
