Ambassador Ikechi Uko to Lay Father, Elder S. O. Uko, to Rest on 11th April in Abia State

Ambassador Ikechi Uko, the Organiser of the Akwaaba African Travel Market, will be laying his father, Elder S. O. Uko, to rest on 11th April 2025 at Ogbuebilla Oboro in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. Elder Uko passed away at the age of 98 years and 10 months on 1st October 2024.

Born on 29th December 1925 to Elder Enyinnaya Uko (Egbu gi bekee) of the Uko Iroegbu household of Ekpinma Ngwaukwu Ogbuebilla, Oboro, Ikwuano LGA, Elder Uko lived a life of dedicated service and faith.

He joined the Nigerian Railways in 1956 as a communication technician, a career that took him across the country and saw him raising his family in different towns in Nigeria.

Beyond his professional life, Elder Uko was a devout Christian and served as a Lay Preacher with the Methodist Church of Nigeria. He lost his wife in 2009, but remained a pillar of strength and wisdom for his family and community.

A Service of Songs will be held in his honour at the Methodist Wesley Cathedral in Enugu on 7th April 2025.

Speaking about his father’s legacy, Ambassador Ikechi Uko reflected on the profound influence his father had on his life. “My Dad was a great inspiration and a great example for living a fulfilled life. I always teased him that he got me into travelling — only that he travelled by rail, but I travel by air. He will be deeply missed by his sibling, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.”

Elder Uko’s funeral is expected to draw family members, friends, and well-wishers from across the country, as they gather to celebrate the life of a man whose journey through life was marked by service, faith, and love.
