AON Demands Substantive Appointment of Captain Najomo as NCAA DG
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has called on President Bola Tinubu to confirm Captain Chris Najomo as the substantive Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), lauding his transformative leadership since his appointment last year.
At the International Air Transport Conference, AON leaders praised Najomo’s tenure as revolutionary, asserting that his administration has redefined aviation regulation and enhanced industry operations.
Dr Allen Onyema, Vice President of AON, and Professor Obiora Okonkwo, the association’s spokesperson, led the charge, extolling Najomo’s contributions and the positive strides achieved under his watch.
They also commended President Tinubu for appointing a capable team to steer Nigeria’s aviation sector, including Najomo and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
Dr Onyema, who is also the Chairman of Air Peace, expressed unequivocal confidence in Najomo’s leadership.
“Captain Chris Najomo is one of Nigeria’s most proficient pilots and a seasoned aviation manager. His impact at the NCAA has brought smiles to the faces of many in the industry. He has revolutionised regulatory processes, ensuring safety and fostering the ease of doing business,” Onyema said.
He highlighted specific reforms spearheaded by Najomo, such as expedited post-arrival aircraft inspections, which now take just three days compared to over a month previously.
Onyema also credited Najomo with saving Nigeria significant costs through efficient regulatory measures while maintaining stringent safety standards.
“We in the AON affirm that Najomo’s leadership has introduced a golden era of regulatory excellence. His work is a testament to the calibre of professionals the industry needs to thrive,” Onyema added.
Onyema further praised Keyamo, noting his proactive approach to addressing longstanding challenges in the aviation sector. “Minister Keyamo has brought a positive revolution to our industry, including lifting Nigeria out of an unofficial blacklist in the global leasing market,” he remarked. He called for patriotic support for Nigerian airlines, urging the public to acknowledge their resilience and contributions to the economy.
Professor Okonkwo described Najomo as a “blessing to the aviation industry,” highlighting his extensive experience as a pilot, airline manager, and regulator.
“Captain Najomo embodies a rare combination of skills and experience, making him an unparalleled asset to the NCAA,” Okonkwo stated.
Recounting personal interactions with Najomo, Okonkwo lauded his dedication and efficiency, citing instances where critical approvals were expedited to prevent operational delays.
“What we have witnessed under his leadership is nothing short of a miracle. Regulatory bottlenecks have become a thing of the past,” he said.
Both AON leaders underscored the urgency of confirming Najomo as the substantive DG, warning that his departure would create a void difficult to fill.
“Captain Najomo has redefined what it means to lead the NCAA. His appointment must be formalised to ensure continuity and sustained progress in the industry,” Onyema stated.
As the aviation sector continues to benefit from Najomo’s transformative leadership, the AON is hopeful that President Tinubu will heed its call and confirm his appointment.
