Arik Air Honoured as Labour Friendly Airline of the Year 2024

Arik Air, one of Nigeria’s foremost airlines, has been recognised as the Labour Friendly Airline of the Year 2024 by the Joint Consultative and Negotiating Council (JCNC), a body comprising four trade unions under the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
The prestigious award was presented by Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, who represented the Minister, during the 11th edition of the Aviation Workers Week held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, on February 25, 2025.
Receiving the award on behalf of Captain Roy Ilegbodu, the Chief Executive Officer of Arik Air, was Engineer Mudi Muhammad, Chairman of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), Arik Air chapter.
Muhammad expressed appreciation to JCNC for acknowledging Arik Air’s commitment to fostering a harmonious relationship with its workforce.
He further assured that the airline’s management would continue to prioritise the well-being of its employees and strengthen ties with labour unions.
Speaking on the recognition, Captain Ilegbodu reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to staff welfare, stating: “We are honoured to have received the Labour Friendly Airline of the Year award from the JCNC of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. The Receivership team has always prioritised the welfare of Arik Air workers since taking over in 2017.”
This marks the second time Arik Air has received this honour from JCNC, further solidifying its reputation as an airline that upholds fair labour practices and employee welfare.
The award underscores Arik Air’s dedication to fostering a conducive working environment while maintaining its position as a leading player in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
