Arik Air’s pilots call off strike, resume work

The management of Arik Air (In Receivership) has announced that its “local” pilots have called off their strike action after two days and have resumed work.

Recall that the airline sacked the pilots for embarking on “illegal” strike action at a peak period of the yuletide, describing the situation as a “gross act of indiscipline.”

The situation led to the cancellation of flights by the airline, leaving many passengers stranded.

But after consultations with the National Association of Airline Pilots and Engineers (NAAPE), the umbrella body of pilots in Nigeria, the sacked pilots have been reinstated.

A statement signed by the Manager, Communication and Public Relations, Arik Air, Adebanji Ola, said the airline regrets any inconvenience caused to passengers as a result of the strike, adding that all scheduled flights are currently operating.

“The management of Arik Air (In Receivership) is pleased to announce that its local pilots have called off their strike action and have since resumed work. All our scheduled flights are currently operating optimally.

“We regret any inconvenience our passengers may have suffered as a result of the strike action and assure all of our continued commitment to operate safely,” the statement reads.
