Aviation Ministry Perm Sec Visits NiMet, Promises Enhanced Collaboration
Dr Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, in a move to strengthen collaboration within Nigeria’s aviation sector, visited the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on Friday, 10th January 2025.
The visit underscored the Ministry’s commitment to supporting NiMet’s critical role in national socio-economic development.
Welcoming the Permanent Secretary, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NiMet, Professor Charles Anosike, provided a comprehensive briefing on the agency’s operations.
He highlighted its affiliation with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), where NiMet serves as Nigeria’s permanent representative.
Anosike elaborated on the agency’s extensive collaborations with key government entities, including the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Blue Economy.
These partnerships leverage NiMet’s weather forecasts for diverse operations across sectors.
“We maintain strong relationships with various ministries, departments, and agencies who rely on our weather forecasts to drive their operations,” Anosike stated.
In his response, Dr Kana commended the agency for its invaluable contributions, praising Professor Anosike, the management team, and staff for their dedication.
He encouraged the agency to continue its exemplary service, while promising increased government support.
“I appreciate the strong relationship existing between NiMet and other government ministries and agencies. I call for even stronger and better relationships between the heads of these agencies.
“I will work with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo SAN, to ensure NiMet receives more government support,” Dr Kana assured.
As part of the visit, Professor Anosike took the Permanent Secretary on a tour of NiMet’s facilities, showcasing the newly established digital weather broadcasting studio and other critical infrastructure.
The visit highlights the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development’s recognition of NiMet’s role in providing accurate meteorological data essential for aviation safety, agriculture, environmental sustainability, and economic planning.
