BASL Reaffirms Zero-Tolerance Stance on Violence Following Assault at MMA2

Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), the operators of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has once again reiterated its unwavering zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of violence within the terminal premises, especially against personnel lawfully discharging their duties.
The company’s firm stance follows a disturbing incident that occurred on Sunday, 20 April 2025, at approximately 13:18hrs, when a violent altercation erupted at the check-in counter of one of the airlines operating from the terminal.
According to BASL, the disruption was reportedly triggered by passenger agitation over a system-related issue. In the course of efforts to manage the situation and de-escalate tensions, a male passenger physically assaulted an on-duty Aviation Security (AVSEC) officer.
The terminal operator condemned the attack in the strongest terms, describing it as not only unacceptable but a repeat of a similar incident recorded in December 2024, in which another staff member was assaulted while on duty.
In response to the latest incident, BASL stated that the matter was promptly escalated and the offending passenger was handed over to the police for investigation and necessary legal action.
The company further assured that it would continue to follow up on the case to ensure that justice is served.
“We are deeply concerned by the recurrence of such attacks on our personnel and will not hesitate to take decisive action to protect all individuals who work at MMA2,” said BASL in a statement signed by Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head of Corporate Communications.
“All passengers and terminal users are expected to resolve grievances through lawful and respectful means. Our staff are here to assist and must be treated with dignity,” the MMA2 operator added.
BASL emphasised that violence against any staff member or service provider at MMA2 would not be condoned under any circumstances, adding that the safety, respect, and security of all terminal users remains its top priority.
The company reiterated its commitment to working closely with law enforcement and other relevant authorities to uphold its zero-tolerance policy and maintain a peaceful atmosphere at the terminal.
