BASL Refutes Ticket Racketeering Allegations at MMA2, Reaffirms Commitment to Passenger Safety, Transparency

Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), operated by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), has strongly denied allegations of ticket racketeering involving airline staff and touts.

The claims suggest collusion to manipulate ticket prices, with one-way tickets reportedly being sold for as much as N250,000.

In a statement signed by Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head, Corporate Communications, BASL emphasised that MMA2 operates under stringent security and operational protocols designed to prevent such activities.

According to the company, the internal monitoring systems of the terminal have found no evidence to support the accusations of intentional ticket hoarding or collusion to inflate prices.

Rumors circulating suggest that touts within MMA2 are using private Point of Sale (PoS) machines to facilitate fraudulent transactions.

BASL clarifies that all ticket sales at MMA2 are conducted through official airline sales booths, using authorised payment methods provided by the airlines.

To combat touting and illegal activities, BASL said it collaborates with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Aviation Security (AVSEC), and other relevant authorities. In June 2024, FAAN established a joint task force aimed at addressing and reducing touting activities across Nigerian airports.

BASL’s Airline Manager, Bisola Ademola-Davies, reiterated MMA2’s dedication to maintaining a seamless passenger experience.

“MMA2 is in continuous discussion with airlines to ensure their processes do not undermine our commitment to a seamless passenger experience. Our efforts have significantly curtailed illegal activities, and we remain steadfast in maintaining this progress,” Ademola-Davies stated.

Monica Oguta, Head of Aviation Security at BASL, highlighted the advanced measures in place to ensure passenger safety.

“Our surveillance systems closely monitor adherence to security protocols within MMA2. Registered protocol officers undergo background checks by the Nigerian Police and BASL AVSEC. Anyone found engaging in illegal activities will be blacklisted,” Oguta said.

Passengers are encouraged to purchase tickets through authorised channels, with AVSEC personnel available to assist. MMA2 collaborates with airline partners and regulatory authorities to maintain transparency and accountability in all operations.

BASL reassured that MMA2, recognised for its state-of-the-art facilities and exceptional service, remains dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety, security, and efficiency.

Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, BASL’s spokesperson, reinforced the airport’s zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct.

“Anyone found engaging in illegal activities will face the full force of the law. Our commitment to passenger safety is unwavering, and we strive to uphold the highest standards of security. Passengers are welcome to approach our help desks for assistance or to make complaints,” Yinka-Olawuyi asserted.

MMA2 reaffirmed its leadership role as a premier private terminal in Lagos, reinforcing its dedication to serving the traveling public with integrity and excellence.
