Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos, has announced plans to resume its highly acclaimed media tours in the new year.

According to a statement signed by
Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head, Corporate Communications at BASL, the company said the media tour follows the success of the first phase, which provided insights into the operations, innovations, and achievements of Nigeria’s first privately managed airport terminal.

The inaugural phase of the tours, which included visits to prominent media houses such as The Guardian, The Punch, Vanguard, New Telegraph, The Nation, and Business Day, allowed BASL to showcase its commitment to maintaining MMA2 as a premier aviation hub.

These engagements also offered media representatives the opportunity to delve deeper into the challenges and triumphs of running the facility, now in its 17th year of operation.

During the tours, Mr. Remi Jibodu, BASL’s Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, provided detailed insights into the company’s operational strategies.

He highlighted BASL’s establishment of an Equipment Management Department to maintain its state-of-the-art facilities and ensure international standards are met.

One of the standout innovations discussed was the acquisition of a digital cold room for the preservation of perishable cargo.

According to Jibodu, this facility, the first of its kind in a domestic airport in Nigeria, addresses challenges faced by cargo operators, including losses incurred from inadequate storage.

“The cold room creates opportunities for seamless cargo business, enabling the preservation of products such as immunisation materials, yoghurt, and meat. This initiative will boost confidence in cargo operations, expand business opportunities, and enhance MMA2’s revenue streams,” Jibodu explained.

Mrs. Yinka-Olawuyi, also highlighted the company’s commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

She spoke about BASL’s partnership with the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre to raise awareness about breast cancer, particularly among women.

In addition, Jibodu emphasised that passenger experience remains a core priority for BASL.

The terminal has introduced enhanced Wi-Fi services in key areas, including the departure hall, premium service area, and food court, to address the needs of passengers, especially those experiencing flight delays.

Jibodu also shared updates on MMA2’s on-time performance metrics, noting that the terminal achieved a 74 per cent average on-time departure rate in 2024, with a goal to reach 85 to 90 per cent in the coming year.

The Acting COO detailed the terminal’s advancements in security, including a robust surveillance system that has successfully tackled stowaway attempts and theft.

He further highlighted MMA2’s uninterrupted power supply, with outages lasting no longer than 20 seconds, and praised the facility’s maintenance culture, which ensures an exceptional passenger experience.

“Our focus is on innovation, excellence, and efficiency,” Jibodu said. “We aim to maintain the high standards MMA2 is known for while adapting to the evolving needs of passengers.”

The media houses commended BASL for its innovative approach and urged the company to sustain its exemplary management of MMA2, demonstrating the potential for effective public-private partnerships in Nigeria.

The tours, which provided mutual benefits to BASL and the public, are set to continue in the new year, with the aim of further fostering transparency and stakeholder engagement.
