Boeing Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthen Air Peace’s Safety Culture
The Boeing Company, a global aerospace leader, has reiterated its unwavering support for Air Peace Limited, the nation’s premier airline and the largest carrier in West Africa.
This declaration comes as Air Peace continues to play a pivotal role in advancing the aviation industry within the region.
During a recent visit to Air Peace’s headquarters in Lagos, a delegation comprising representatives from The Boeing Company and Cranfield University, UK, embarked on a five-day Advanced Leadership in Safety Excellence training programme.
The initiative aims to bolster safety culture and operational excellence at the airline.
Harry Magui, Senior Organisational Consultant and Programme Manager at Boeing Global Learning Institute, commended Air Peace’s remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s aviation landscape.
“Air Peace has been phenomenal in advancing the aviation industry in Nigeria. We are here to support them in harnessing future opportunities through this leadership training programme. We recognise their achievements and are proud of their commitment to safety and excellence,” he stated.
Magui emphasised the critical importance of safety in aviation, noting, “Safety is the number one metric in this industry. Without safety, there can be no business. It is vital not only for airlines but also for regulators and passengers. We are committed to collaborating with Air Peace in areas such as psychological safety, change management, safety leadership, crisis management, and fostering a just culture.”
Harrison Debrah, Global Safety & Regulatory Affairs representative at Boeing, also lauded Air Peace’s rapid growth and resilience, praising its Chairman/CEO, Dr Allen Onyema, for his visionary leadership.
“Air Peace remains central to Boeing’s vision for Nigeria. We commend Dr Onyema for his tenacity and passion, which have propelled the airline’s remarkable achievements,” Debrah remarked.
Dr Fabian Steinmann, a lecturer at Cranfield University specialising in Organisational Resilience and Change, highlighted Cranfield’s collaboration with Air Peace.
“We are delighted to deliver this training in Lagos as Air Peace celebrates its 10th anniversary. At Cranfield, safety is at the core of everything we do. This partnership allows us to share global best practices and learn from Air Peace’s operations,” Steinmann said.
He further noted the significance of adapting aviation systems to an ever-changing environment, adding, “We aim to facilitate an exchange of ideas and lessons learned from around the world to enhance Air Peace’s operations.”
Responding to the commendations, Dr Onyema expressed gratitude to the Boeing and Cranfield teams.
“In Air Peace, safety is at the core of everything we do. We are eager to engage in the Advanced Leadership in Safety Excellence training. Our system of checks and balances reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards,” he said.
Dr Onyema also revealed his unwavering confidence in Air Peace’s safety and maintenance culture, stating that he exclusively flies with the airline.
He highlighted the organisation’s adoption of a “Just Culture,” which encourages non-punitive reporting to foster transparency and accountability within its operations.
The visit and training emphasise the collaborative efforts of Boeing and Cranfield University in reinforcing Air Peace’s commitment to safety, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
