In the ever-evolving world of fashion, hair braiding stands out as a timeless and versatile accessory that complements and elevates any outfit. From runways to street style, the intricate patterns and styles of braids add a layer of sophistication and creativity, making them a perfect companion to good fashion.

Braids come in various styles, from classic French braids to edgy cornrows and elaborate fishtails. This versatility allows them to be tailored to fit any fashion aesthetic. Whether you’re dressing up for a formal event or keeping it casual for a day out, there’s a braid that will enhance your look.

This re-echoes the ageless adage, “Looking Good is Good Business,” which is particularly relevant in today’s generation of fashion enthusiasts. Good fashion, dictated by nice clothing and complemented by luxuriantly braided hair extensions, has become a staple in our daily grooming routine.

Hair extensions, primarily made from synthetic fibers, are worn for a myriad of reasons, including fashion shows, cultural traditions, religious observances, and corporate activities. The surge in demand for hair extensions and wigs, both for beauty and practical purposes, has propelled the industry forward.

To support and promote the hair extensions and braiding profession in Nigeria, the Nigeria Association of Hair Dressers, Barbers, and Cosmetologists (NASHCO) has launched the “NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition.” This initiative, in partnership with the Japanese synthetic hair fiber giant, Kaneka, aims to raise awareness of their hair extensions and products through styling competitions across 14 states in Nigeria.

While some may keep their hair habits private, the affordability and accessibility of hair products in the Nigerian market today have democratised access to these beauty essentials. Once the preserve of the affluent and celebrities, Darling hair extensions are now widely available and cater to all women.

Launched in 2023, the NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition seeks to enhance brand awareness and engage with stylists and marketers through workshops and contest events. This competition showcases popular African hairstyles using Kaneka hair fiber products, which are the official hair of the event nationwide.

Kaneka, renowned for its high-quality synthetic fibers, powers the NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition with its Hot Water Set technology, allowing for a variety of hairstyles. Committed to delivering beauty with quality and safety, Kaneka supports the competition as part of its efforts to provide innovative and safe beauty products globally.

The Hair Creativity Competition leverages the growing demand for sustainable hair styling solutions among eco-conscious consumers, helping build trust and brand differentiation. NASHCO has designed programs to enhance the knowledge of professionals across different states through training and workshops, benefiting professional braiders, especially those with lower incomes.

The competition’s promotional activities will unfold in two phases. The first phase, which began in June, will continue through July 2024 in Ondo, Delta, Anambra, Edo, Kano, Ogun and Lagos. The second phase will run from August to September 2024 in Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, Abia and Port Harcourt, culminating in the finals.

The competition offers attractive rewards, including a 2.5 KVA generator for the first prize, a suspended dryer for the second prize, and a hand dryer, hair straightener, and hair curler for the third prize, along with numerous consolation prizes.

The NASHCO Hair Creativity Competition aims to promote best manufacturing practices, enhance distribution, and create brand visibility. By addressing frequently asked questions and development plans, the competition ensures consumers receive the best value from their hair products.
