British Airways unveils luxuriously renovated lounge at Lagos Airport

British Airways has officially opened its newly renovated lounge at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Nigeria, offering a blend of luxury and contemporary design after a comprehensive six-month refurbishment.

In a statement announcing the unveiling of the lounge, the airline said the revamped space spans 360 square meters, designed to provide customers with a premium experience that includes upgraded food and beverage options, relaxation areas, and workspaces.

Upon entering the lounge, guests are greeted by a grand entrance featuring floor-to-ceiling glass, leading into a meticulously designed space that caters to various customer needs.

The lounge, according to the airline, has been divided into distinct zones, allowing travelers to relax, dine, or work in a setting that exudes both comfort and sophistication.

Travellers can look forward to a self-serve dining area offering a wide selection of freshly made dishes, with menus that incorporate Nigerian classics alongside British-inspired cuisine.

British Airways said the menu will rotate regularly to keep the offerings fresh and exciting, adding that a newly constructed bar staffed by a bartender serves cocktails, wine, soft drinks, and champagne, with canapés provided for First-class travelers.

In celebration of British Airways’ long-standing connection with Nigeria, the airline said the lounge proudly features art from local artists in collaboration with Akoje Gallery.

Founded by Maro Itoje and Khalil Akar, the gallery has curated an innovative exhibition themed “New Beginnings” to mark the lounge’s opening; the exhibition includes works such as Olawunmi Banjo’s “The Wait I and II,” Qozeem Abdul Rahman’s “The Guardian,” and Steve Ekpenisi’s metal sculpture “Ulaga.”

The lounge is equipped with a quiet room featuring daybeds for those needing rest, and the main area is furnished with comfortable sofas and clusters of tables and chairs. Business travelers can utilise new printing facilities, ensuring a seamless work experience.

Calum Laming, British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer, expressed excitement about the new lounge, stating, “We’re focused on investing in the entire customer journey, not just onboard. For many of our customers, lounges are an important part of their experience, and the redesign of our Lagos lounge is a key part of our transformation strategy across our lounges around the world.

“We’re delighted to open our doors to this stunning lounge in Lagos and we’re confident customers will enjoy spending time in this cleverly created space.”

Khalil Akar from Akoje Gallery added, “We are honored to partner with British Airways and give local Nigerian artists the chance to showcase their talents in the brand-new Lagos Lounge.

“We hope British Airways passengers enjoy the immersion in Nigerian culture and the artists’ contribution to their local art community.”

The renovated lounge is open to customers traveling in Club World (business) and First-class, as well as Silver and Gold Executive Club Members.
